09-04-05, 12:15 AM How would the rules for THF work if a character is using a buckler on his off hand while holding, say a greatsword or something akin to that? Does he lose the AC bonus to defense as well as take a -1 penalty on an attack roll, or is that just TWF?

Yes, he loses the AC bonus and takes a -1 on attacks.

Most DMs would allow the feat Improved Buckler Defense (Complete Warrior) to allow you to retain the AC bonus, but still have to take the -1 to attacks.

Are you talking about somehow Two Weapon fighting with a Buckler and a Greatsword? Or Greatsword, some other weapon, and wearing a buckler?

Or are you talking about Weilding a Greatsword and having a Buckler and just threw in the TWF thing at random?

09-04-05, 10:20 AM I believe it was at random. He was asking about if the -1 to hit and loss of AC only deal with TWF or anytime you use your off-hand to attack, such as in the case of using a THW.

09-04-05, 10:28 AM I threw the Two Weapon Fighting in there asking to ask if the rules were the same with that as well as Two Handed Fighing. Sorry about not being clear, it was midnight and I wanted an answer before I played today. Anyway, thanks for the answers, everyone.

09-04-05, 10:30 AM When wearing a buckler on your arm you may make attacks with that hand at a -1 to hit, and lose the AC bonus of the buckler till your next action (unless you have imporved buckler, then you the AC bonus). This penalty applies to both one handed weapons and two-handed weapons, you can read this on page 124 of the PHB.
