My final numbers, considering all modifiers is +4/+4, however, I'm wearing a buckler in one arm. The PHB says you incur a -1 to attacks because of the strain of the shield. Does this penalty apply to both attacks, giving me a final attack bonus of +3/+3, or just to the arm with the buckler, for a +4/+3. Thank you in advance. |

You can also use your shield arm to wield a weapon (whether you are using an off-hand weapon or using your off hand to help wield a two-handed weapon), but you take a -1 penalty on attack rolls while doing so. This penalty stacks with those that may apply for fighting with your off hand and for fighting with two weapons. In any case, if you use a weapon in your off hand, you don’t get the buckler’s AC bonus for the rest of the round. You take the -1 penalty to all attacks made using the off hand, but not to an attack made with your good hand unless it is Two-handed style. So if using it TWF style, ONLY your off hand gets the penalty. If you use it as Two-handes style, then you get the -1 penalty, as you are using your off hand. Also note, without the feat Improved Buckler Defense, you will never gain any AC benefit from using the buckler while using the double weapon. |
