| lowendz11309-23-06, 01:53 PM | I didnt really know where else to pose a question like this: I want to know how much it would cost to build a house in terms of gold. My party wants to build several houses in a community, and we just dont know how much it would cost us. Any ideas? |

My party wants to build several houses in a community, and we just dont know how much it would cost us. Any ideas? Complicated answer. Stronghold Builder has all the math. Example: basic master bedroom suite (800 gp and 1 unit) two basic bath (800 gp and 0.5 unit each) basic kitchen (2,000 gp and 1 unit) walls wooden 4,000gp (4 units max) basic library (500 gp and 1 unit) total 8,100 gp Multiply by about 50 cost factors including monster nearby, kings likes/hates you, lawlessness, climate, size of nearby towns, etc. Takes a week per 10,000 gp. To build faster pay more. This doesn't include the spell casting rules (ways to fab it via spells) or the ways to get additional things like doors windows etc. |

My party wants to build several houses in a community, and we just dont know how much it would cost us. Any ideas? Too much. I only use the Stronghold Builder's GUide for fortresses, as most commoners can't afford the straw huts they live in  Smaller houses are less expensive to make... probably a few hundred gp alone to make a one bedroom flat with a latrine and fire place... |
| aramilcaelvan09-23-06, 07:14 PM | Considering that the average peasant has a 20ftX20ft cottage, which he shares with his wife and 2-3 kids, about 700gp. Of course, that's with well built stone walls, and a slate roof. |
| savant_warlord1309-23-06, 09:39 PM | You are all overestimating costs here. Just get volunteers. Amish are always looking for things to build. Your materials would pretty much be free, anyway. |
| savant_warlord1309-23-06, 09:40 PM | I just remembered that in the DMGII it has costs for a small building under stuff you need for a business. |
| pukunui09-24-06, 01:36 AM | as most commoners can't afford the straw huts they live in Most medieval commoners wouldn't have paid for the straw huts they live in - their landlords would have. The DMG 3.5 (p. 101) has a list of costs for buying/constructing buildings of various types. Here's the list: Simple house..................1,000gp Grand house...................5,000gp Mansion......................100,000gp Tower..........................50,000gp Keep..........................150,000gp Castle........................500,000gp Huge castle..............1,000,000gp Moat with bridge............50,000gp Simple houses are defined as having: 1-3 bedrooms, wood walls, thatched roof Grand houses are defined as having: 4-10 bedrooms, wood walls, thatched roof So to answer the OP's question: if you want to go by the default rules, it'll cost your party 1,000gp for simple houses or 5,000gp for grand houses. Just don't forget, Trogdor likes burninating thatch-roofed cottages! ;) |
