Buying a magical weapon [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-13-08, 03:47 PM If I wanted, could I buy a +3 Holy Longsword for my Paladin?

If so, what would be the formula for calculating the cost?

If not, could someone explain the steps I'd need to take to acquire/make one using a 15th level Paladin?

04-13-08, 04:10 PM A +3 sword has a market value of +3 (obviously). The Holy power counts as +2 (as seen in the Holy power entry in the DMG). Add those together to get +5, then look at the chart. A +5 weapon costs 50,000gp. If you had 50,0000 gp and the DM said that you found one for sale (it would probably have to be in a metropolis, seeing as how it costs between 40k and 100k, but most DM's don't usually fool with that), then there'd be no reason why you couldn't buy one.

Magic supplies cost: 25,000 GP
XP Cost: 50,000/25 = 2,000 XP

So, making the sword yourself costs 25,000 GP and 2,000 XP, as long as you have the required creation feat.

that rule is useful because you can easily see if the item is available in your town. If the caster level require level 12 in a 100 people town i doubt a level 12 wiz is living there.
