Buying new gear [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-11-04, 05:49 PM I am currently entering an online game where characters start at level 20 and are given a certain amount of gold to start with. I need to know where I can look to find information on magical weapons and armor. I have seen the SRD about creating weapons and armor not buying them. If I only want an item with an attribute bonus (i.e. +1, +2 to attack or AC, etc.) I can't seem to find what they would cost.

As I recall (concerning weapons, at least), each "upgrade" is the cost of the previous upgrade times four. Therefore, a +1 weapon costs 2000gp (plus the masterowking cost of 300gp and the cost of the item itself), a +2 weapon costs 8000gp, a +3 weapon costs 32,000gp and so forth. I seem to recall that armor bonuses work the same way, but cost half the price of weapons. Therefore, a set of +1 armor costs 1000gp (plust the masterwork cost and the cost of the armor itself), +2 runs 4000gp, +3 runs 16,000gp and so forth.

I don't have my DMG with me right now, so I'm not 100% sure this is 100% correct, but I think it is.

Weapons: BSQx2000 i.e. +5 (Max) is 5x5x2000=50,000
Most weapon abilities use a + equivalent for abilities. +5 flaming burst (+7 Total) 7x7x2000= 98,000. The max total +'s is +10.

Armor: BSQx1000 i.e. +5 (max) is 5x5x1000=25,000
Armor abilities use both a price and plus system to add abilities. It also has a max of +10, but I also limit the total price to 200,000.
