| TrackStar09-04-06, 04:37 AM | How do you figure out the cost for used items that have charges. Like a wand for example. I would I figure out the cost of a wand with 25/50 charges? Assuming 1st lvl spell and 1st level caster. |
| runestar09-04-06, 07:00 AM | It will be proportional to the cost of a fully charged item. For example, a wand of 1st lv magic missle starts with 50 charges and normally costs 750 gp. Thus, a wand with 25 charges left costs half of what a fully charged wand would cost, or 375 gp.:) |

They cost half-price, and have a randomly determined amount of charges (check the DMG for the exact roll... I don't have the book nearby). It's a seldom used (or known) rule, but it's there. |
| tarkin09-05-06, 03:56 PM | I am 99.999% you are in error. Please give a page number for that rule. I can not find it at all in the SRD. I strongly believe that you are misreading other rules. Specifically I believe you are misreading the rules for: 1) Selling magic items. When a character sells something, they get 1/2 of its' VALUE. That is, when you find something and sell it right away, you get 1/2 the price that someone that has a store and waits for someone to come around and ask to buy it gets. 2) Found magic items have a randomly rolled number of charges. They are worth a proprotionate number. I.E. when you buy a wand with 40 charges, it costs you 40/50 = 80% of a fully charged item. If you sell this item you will get 1/2 of that (see rule #1 above), or 40% of the cost to buy a fully charged item. |

| Draco Strang09-05-06, 05:04 PM | I'm with tarkin as well. In pretty much every game I've played, we've run with what is essentially a "cost per charge" policy. |
| mvincent09-05-06, 05:09 PM | I am 99.999% you are in error.Cool! On the 1 in 100,000 chance that I am correct and can provide the requested information, will that garner me some serious future consideration? (I'd offer to penny-bet on it, but a $1000 return just seems unfair) |

| risner09-06-06, 01:49 AM | By my reading: 1) You can't make items with less than full charges (DMG p214.) 2) If you find treasure, it can have less than full charges (DMG p199.) 3) If you sell an item, it is worth porportional to the remaining charges (DMG p214.) 4) If you find a charged item for sale with less than full charges it will sell for porportional price (25 charges = 1/2 price. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20041221a) Also In general, a charged item cannot be recharged. I'd love to help you mvincent, but it seems you confused the "found a magic wand as loot" d%/2 rule (cap at 50 charges) with the "buy used wands at charges/50 of base price" rules. |
| runestar09-06-06, 05:01 AM | Also, if you are playing a FR campaign, depending on your starting region, your bonus eq might include a partially charged wand of a low lv spell.:) I know the Calimshan region gives you a wand of magic missile(caster lv 1st) with 20 charges for free.:) |
