Camel dung lantern [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-15-07, 01:03 PM I might start a campaing in the desert, and I just had this idea:

I assume that in the desert, oleaginous plants (for making vegetable oil) are pretty rare, and I know that camel faeces can be used as fuel (they're dry and they burn well).

Do they burn with enough light for use as a mean of illumination?

If yes, then they probably require some special lantern to burn them with... Does that exist in real life? Would it be feasible in D&D?

Anyway, this is not a big issue, for nonmagical illumination is needed only for low levels. But I'm still interested in having your opinion and suggestions.

06-15-07, 03:42 PM The native peoples of the Mongolian Steppes use animal poo for everything, they dont have trees there to work with so it seems a reasonable option.

The lantern idea would probably have to be special made, a large resevoir for continued use and treated mirrors lining the inside for enchanced light production and filth mitigation (for both ease of cleaning and stain stopping)
