| Lyndis02-24-08, 03:41 PM | I can't find information in RoD about whether a chameleon can do armored casting with chameleon spells while in Arcane Focus. Does anyone know? |
| dman1123502-24-08, 04:13 PM | AFAIK all arcane spells have ASF, as long as they have somatic components, unless stated otherwise. |
| Count Arioch the 28th02-24-08, 06:14 PM | I concur. They are cast as arcane spells, therefore they suffer from ASF. |
| mplindustries02-25-08, 02:30 AM | It doesn't say that it is subject, so I'd rule that it doesn't. And RAW, by not saying something that is not assumed, it means that it does not apply (and not all arcane spells are subject to spell failure...assassin for one). Though, I would not be the least bit surprised if it was intended to suffer from spell failure. D&D seems designed to annoy me and favor a totally different style than I enjoy for some reason. |

Only if they have a class ability that can reduce / ignore ASF. IIRC, nothing in Chameleon states that ASF can be ignored. |

This is not true. An Assassin casts as a bard, and thus can cast in light armor, but not medium or light. Also, you'll note that neither the Sorcerer or Wizard says that they can't. And here: Spells also fail if your concentration is broken and might fail if you’re wearing armor while casting a spell with somatic components. and here: Armor interferes with the gestures that a spellcaster must make to cast an arcane spell that has a somatic component. Arcane spellcasters face the possibility of arcane spell failure if they’re wearing armor. Bards can wear light armor without incurring any arcane spell failure chance for their bard spells. Casting an Arcane Spell in Armor A character who casts an arcane spell while wearing armor must usually make an arcane spell failure roll. The number in the Arcane Spell Failure Chance column on Table: Armor and Shields is the chance that the spell fails and is ruined. If the spell lacks a somatic component, however, it can be cast with no chance of arcane spell failure. Shields If a character is wearing armor and using a shield, add the two numbers together to get a single arcane spell failure chance. |

| dman1123502-26-08, 12:39 AM | yup. |
| Vaelan02-26-08, 04:03 AM | General rule: arcane spellcasters suffer from arcane spell failure. Exceptions must be explicitly stated. |
