| paradox199504-24-07, 02:34 AM | Can a scout skirmish a foe that has concealment? The skirmish explination closly mimics the rogues sneak attack. A rogue cannot SA a foe w/ concealment... but I cannot find it anywherer where it says a scout cannot gain skirmish on a concealed foe... Did wizards miss this? |
| Devlonir04-24-07, 07:09 AM | I do not have my books with me.. but the best to find out is to check for the next phrase in the skirmish ability: "precision based damage" If it is precision based damage, than cover would stop it from being effective, as mentioned in the FAQ. If it isn't, than you get to use it against creatures with cover. |
| Necromas04-24-07, 07:25 AM | It is precision based damage. The same reason you don't get extra skirmish hits when you use normal manyshot. |
| paradox199504-24-07, 12:54 PM | thanks for the replys... you mentioned cover... does the same go for concealment? |
| draconic_swine04-24-07, 04:24 PM | A rogue can't sneak attack a concealed opponent. From the SRD (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/rogue.htm#sneakAttack): A rogue cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment or striking the limbs of a creature whose vitals are beyond reach. |
| Dead_Weasel04-24-07, 07:08 PM | Skirmish states that "the scout must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot." The Sneak Attack description has this exact same line, which is then followed with the statement that a rogue "cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment." The phrase precision-based damage is not actually mentioned in either ability. IMO, it is presumed in the description of Skirmish that the first statement invokes the second, since it's corollary that a creature that is concealed cannot be seen well enough to strike at its vitals. |
| Empiro04-24-07, 07:15 PM | I believe that you CAN sneak attack/skirmish an opponent with cover -- it's concealment that ruins it. |
| Dead_Weasel04-24-07, 07:40 PM | Cover would really be more of a DM call, since that is an issue of not being able to reach/hit (another prerequisite to make a sneak attack) rather than not being able to see. Since it is not specifically stated that cover prevents sneak attacks, it should not. |
