This applies to the greatspear from CW as well.

I mean some of them don't say it but ya know... makes me think since they are ALL the same weapon esentially, just higher dice damage with each one.

No. At the least, shortspears cannot be set against a charge. Spears and longspears can. I don't remember off of the top of my head for all of the various other variants.

I think the idea is that the shortspear is meant to represent short (5' or so), melee/throwing spears, not much larger than a javelin. So it's not really long enough to provide a substantial advantage against a charge.

Strictly speaking, unless a spear specifies that it can be set aginst a charge, it can't. Personally, I rule any two-handed spear can be set against a charge (this precludes the shortspear, the one core spear that doesn't allow setting). I'd say the greatspear not mentioning it was a simple oversight.
