Can any creature with a tail use a weapon on it? [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-20-07, 11:40 PM I currently have a half-minotaur cohort who has a tail. If he buys a tail club from Savage Species, or tail spikes from Oriental Adventures can he use them if he takes the appropriate exotic weapon proficiency? In the weapon entries it does not mentioned what the requirements are, and I am not sure if there are any core rules which state what kind of creatures can use weapons on their tails.

On the same note, could a kobold do the same thing?

11-20-07, 11:49 PM I'd say no, as I thought the tail weapon(s) were intended to upgrade a creature's tail slap attack. No slap, no weapon. Otherwise you would see house cats wielding +5 keen tail spikes of wounding. With their size bonus, that would be nasty.

I know. I was just wondering if there were any feats which allowed other creatures with a tail to do it.

11-21-07, 12:37 AM If I recall correctly, aren't the tail spikes in OA usable by the Nezumi? I don't have my books on me, but I don't recall the Nezumi having any kind of natural tail attack. That to me would mean that you could probably have some kind of tail spike weapon for anyone with a suitably-sized tail. If nothing else, see if your DM will allow creating a variant on tail spikes that's usable by your cohort.

That is, if Nezumi and tail spikes set that kind of standard. I'm still not sure if I'm correct on that or not.

Not to my knowledge.

11-21-07, 06:37 AM Actually both weapons (the Tail Spikes and the Tail club) give creatures with a tail an extra combat weapon.

The Tail Spikes refer specifically to the Nezumi and Vanara characters, both of whom have non-functional tails. The Tail-spike seems to work much like the Braid Blade in that it grants a limited additional attack using the tail on top of all other attacks.

The Tail club(and tail blade) in savage species, however, both make mention of treating them as granting multi-weapon fighting options, and both refer to the Lizardfolk, a creature who does not have any sort of natural tail attack.

As far as I can tell any creature who has a reasonable length tail can benefit from these weapons.

11-21-07, 12:50 PM I think that even tail spikes require the tai to be reasonably muscular and dextrous. The Ratlike tail of the Nezumi, or
monkeylike tail of the Vanara might not give tail attacks already, but they are both relatively large. The Tails of lizardfolk are very powerful, giving bonuses to banlance and swim checks and suchlike.

I can't see the very stubby, cowlike tail of a half-minotaur being able to wield any weapon effectively.

If his tail is actually large and powerful, such as from a draconic graft or suchlike however, a tail weapon would be more reasonable.
