| itraylor09-23-06, 01:44 AM | I am working on the ‘ultimate’ luck blade but not exactly like the one in the DMG that grants wishes. I have the concept but I can’t work up the price so could someone please show the math and the formula of how much these properties would cost? I was thinking about using the Moment of Prescience spell (Luck 8) but I wanted it to grant the following properties and instead of being insight bonuses I wanted them to be luck bonuses: Attack Roll +5 Ability Checks +5 Skill Checks +5 Saving Throws +5 AC +5 I also want the sword to have the Good Fortune ability to re-roll one roll a day. Ultimately this will be an epic weapon but can I get the price for a +5 enhancement bonus and a +10? Thanks. |

Ultimately this will be an epic weapon but can I get the price for a +5 enhancement bonus and a +10? Thanks. First, for pricing purposes (in making a brand new item) take the price of a drained (no wishes) Luck blade: the sword remains a +2 short sword, still grants the +1 luck bonus, and still grants its reroll power. = 22,060 gp Subtract the value (estimated) of the +1 luck saves: 1*1*2,000 gp * 1.5(MDA) * 2.0 (Slotless) 1*1*2,000 * 2.5 (MDA+Slotless) = 5,000 gp Easy, now add the Stone of Good Luck for most of it: +5 luck bonus on saving throws, ability checks, and skill checks. 5*5*20,000 *2.5 (MDA+Slotless) = 1,250,000 Split into 3 "groups" and you still have 400,000 or more per group, so any way you look at it, all three of these abilities are epic based on cost. So 10x applies. Add Luck AC: 5*5*2,500 *2.5(MDA+Slotless) = 156,250 gp +5 Luck AC Add it up: 22,060 - 5,000 + 12,500,000 + 156,250 = 12,673,310 gp That is more than wealth by level of 39th level player. Which means the 25% max value per single item would run the character up to approx level 54 before the character could buy that item. |

How about a Keen Ghost Touch Scimitar of Speed +5 (which boils to +10 enhancement bonus for a base price of 200,000 gp), keep the good fortune ability and only have it add a +5 luck bonus to saving throws, ability checks and skill checks? Or a Scimitar +5, the good fortune ability and the +5 luck bonus to saving throws, ability checks and skill checks? |

I have the martial weapon proficiency: scimitar. What type of ‘luck blade’ do you think it good for flavor and a good weapon…one without the wish ability? I am an artificer so I can make my own items easily. |

Price of Scimitar of Luck (no wishes) and +5 bonus: 22,060 gp + 5 gp (Short Sword -> Scimitar) - 5,000 gp (remove +1 luck) + 1,250,000 gp (Add +5 luck) - 8,000 gp (remove +2 enchantment) + 200,000 (+5 keen ghost speed) = 1,459,065 Would be 1,309,065 gp for +5 weapon (instead of +5 keen ghost speed) |
