| Tempest Stormwind02-17-07, 08:47 PM | When and How? the ever so important questions...This classic quote sums it up nicely.Bob is walking through the woods one day when Uggo the Troll smells him. "MMM! Human! Good eating!" would be an approximation of Uggo's pea-brained thoughts. Loping after poor old Bob, he rushes up. Bob sees Uggo and screams in terror at the stinky green Troll bearing down on him. Uggo closes and attacks! He lands one claw hit, then he lands a second claw hit. His Trollish instincts take over and RRRRIP!! Bob the Commoner is now Bob the Commoner Chunkboy. Because Uggo hit with both of his claw attacks, he automatically dealt a Rend attack. If Uggo hadn't hit with one of his claws, he wouldn't have been able to do a Rend on poor dead Bob. Of course, Uggo would have likely killed poor stupid Bob anyways with one good whack of his claws, but that's not the point. So let's close on the scene of Uggo settling down to a nice meal of Bob Al Fresco and thank them both for being nice enough to show us how Rend works.Essentially, if both claw attacks hit, you deal damage for both of them, and then add Rend damage. |

| Cadwyn02-17-07, 08:53 PM | But how much damage is a Rend? I understand that it is both claws, but what about the strength bonus? or if you somehow have "flaming" claws? |
| Tempest Stormwind02-17-07, 08:58 PM | But how much damage is a Rend? I understand that it is both claws, but what about the strength bonus? or if you somehow have "flaming" claws? For this and all your other rules-related questions, read the relevant monster statblock. It's always given there. For instance, a troll deals 2d6+9 damage on a rend (on top of normal claw damage). Typically, it's twice the single weapon damage (NOT anything like Flaming, though)+ 1.5 Strength, though I believe there may be exceptions. |
| Cadwyn02-17-07, 09:02 PM | Mkay, so if I cast Magic Fang +2 on a Troll, does his Rend damage increase? the flaming I understand...almost anyways, but pure enhancement bonus would still be used, atleast that what I think...but Im no DM so nobody listens to me :weep: |
