I've not had this happen in any of my games, but here are a few thoughts about bull rushing into a grapple: 1. When attacking into a grapple of two people you have a 50% chance of hitting either person. 2. A Bull Rush is running into someone to push them back. So one way to interpret it is that if you Bull Rush into a grapple you roll to see who you run into (50/50) and then resolve the Bull Rush with the person you collided with. Since the target(s) are grappling I do not believe they can get an Attack of Opportunity off on you. Okay, lets say two people are in a grapple and you Bull Rush one to break up the fight. We'll label them A and B. Lets say you Bull Rushed A and succeeded. Now the question is what happens to the grapple between A and B? The easy way is to just say the grapple ends. You Bull Rush person A back based on the Bull Rush attempt (provided you won) and person B moves into an adjacent square (so that they don't occupy the same space as you). It's simplistic, but works as a quick method to break up a grapple when everyone involved is roughly the same size catagory. These are just ideas I put together, they might be helpful. :) |

Anyway, I think it depends on whom is grappling, and which combatant wants to end the grapple, if any. If no one wants to hold on, it should just break up the grapple. If anyone wanted to continue grappling, they'd probably have to make Str checks to resist the rush, and, if failed, they'd have to make grapple checks to keep the opponent held. |

Using the bullrush to completely circumvent the existing mechanics for breaking other people out of grapples is not the intent of either. |
| ShinAkuma204-05-06, 01:24 PM | Hm, I guess that's fair enough. I like the idea of using bull rush to pull people apart like that, but I must agree, simplicity is the word of the day when it comes to making up crap like this. |
