If I am playing a Rogue with the Adaptable Flanker feat (PH2) and a Spiked Chain, can I flank my chosen target all by myself?

The feat says that "when adjacent ot a foe you can choose to count as occupying any other square you threaten fo rthe purposes of determining flanking bonuses for you and your allies. You also occupy your current square for flanking an opponent."

R = Rogue; F = Fake Flanker; T = Target Bad Guy; O = Empty space

Would I get Sneak Attack damage while doing this?

I am picturing a 9th level rogue who duel-wields Kasuri-gamas (DMG). :D

I would interpret that to say that you can flank when you are adjacent to an enemy, no matter where you are in relation to your buddy...so long as you HAVE a buddy also adjacent; e.g., even in situations like these (B=your Buddy), you are flanking:

I don't read it that you can flank by yourself.

Yes you need no one else but yourself too flank.. Only if you are using the combat facing stuff in the Unearthed Arcana.. which the person which you are face to face with gets nothing.. the flanks (or sides) gets +2 and the person behind you is +4...

A good long while ago, I mentioned that I like to copy as much stuff into my SRD as possible because the books don't have a Search function. I tweak the formatting a little bit for my own purposes. It's handy.

ADAPTABLE FLANKER [FIGHTER]; Player’s Handbook II
Prerequisites: Combat Reflexes, Vexing Flanker, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit: As a swift action, you designate a single opponent as the target of this feat. When you are adjacent to the chosen target, you can choose to count as occupying any other square you threaten for the purposes of determining flanking bonuses for you and your allies. You also occupy your current square for flanking an opponent.

I also have idle web space.

Now, if you're adjacent to somebody...

...then you can't flank them by yourself because you don't threaten any of the spaces on that person's opposite side.

Even if you have a reach weapon...

...you'd be able to flank them by yourself, but you couldn't attack them.

However, if you were wielding a spiked chain...

...then you could indeed treat yourself as occupying a space behind the person while still being able to attack them.

Doncha just love spiked chains? You could also do this with armor spikes or unarmed strikes and a reach weapon, but your DM might enforce TWF penalties.

...only now, at the end, does the the brain think on sneak attack and sayeth, "holy crap."

...or if you had a regular reach weapon and improved unarmed strike :)

Now if you notice your in corner .. put yourself right next too him and by the UA your flanking him even without anyone on the other side..

your friend is X your oppenent is O and you are U

OU by the UA you are flanking
XOU by the RAW you are flanking

U
O
X by the UA you get no bonus but your friend would take a +4

O
U by the UA you get a +4 IF your opponent's back is towards you.. they would have to do a move action to face you or take a -10 to hit you...
