Can you have a +1/+9 magic weapon? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I've looked through the item creation rules and don't see this addressed. It clearly states you can't have a Longsword +6 (barring epic). However I don't see it ruled anywhere about having a Shocking, Holy, Anarchic, Extraplanar Bane Longsword +1 of Speed. Is such a weapon legal?

And if anyone could provide the rules regarding this specificly I'd love a page number.

Yep. The actual enhancement must be at least +1, and no more than +5 pre-epic, but the weapon itself can be +10. The other +9 can be anything from up to +4 enhancement more, to the +9 of other abilities you mentioned.

Hmm? i didn't think it had to have an enchantment bonus, just be masterwork.
six Throwing returning ranged keen vorpal scimitars on a marilith dervish with improved crit and focus in scimitar, anyone?

that'd be six 14-20 crit vorpals to anyone within 100 feet, i think.

3.0 may allow RAW abuse, but it's so fun.

You're obviously abusing RAW you haven't read fully... You've always had to have at least a +1 enhamcement bonus on any magic weapon in 3.0 & 3.5...

In both 3.0 and 3.5, weapons must be enchanted with a bonus of at least +1 before they can be given special abilities.

In 3.5, vorpal only works on a natural 20. In 3.0, it operated on criticals and could be munchkinized all too easily (keen vorpal bladed gauntlet with Improved Critical, anyone?)

You need a wepon to be +1 before enchanting? Okay, got it now.

Like i said, the overabuse is for fun, like 20th level sorceror duels. Prismatic wall above you, polymorph your feet into tree roots, then reverse gravity. something stupid like that.

Fun spontaneous things break up monotony mid-campaign.

Companies like WotC put out errata for thier products for a reason, it is sad that so few people bother to check it.

polymorph your feet into tree roots

What specific creature is it that is "You with tree roots"? Didn't bother to read Polymorph, either, it seems.

Oh yeah, it's a template. With Roots. It's in Lords of Madness.

Ummm, I could be wrong, but I don't believe that Improved crit and keen stack............. neither does the keen edge spell............

Improved Crit and keen stacked in 3.0 but don't in 3.5. Neither stacked with the spell though.

Roleplaying really breaks up monotony mid-campaign too. Far more effectively too. It's almost like abusing the RAW of personal/social interaction.
