Start making grapple checks and pin him down. If he really refuses to stay down smack him with non-lethal damage and watch him collapse. Btw where did you get a lvl 4 blink dog?

Thanks but for the non-lethal damage what should I use.......the hilt of my sword a staff.....or just my fists?

The blink dog was a family pet I only had to swap a bit of money and the ability to get a pet when I get to certain levels

Dosen't really matter what you want to use to render them unconcious. If you use your sword hilt you will take a -4 on your attack roll because you are having to use the hilt or flat of your blade to hit. It in PHB. You could also punch them but it would count as an unarmed attack and it would get an AoO on you if you aren't trained properly. Either way will be sure to smack your foe silly.

you should use some creativity. just imagine you've got a sword in your hand, and a kolbold straddled beneath your knees... what would you hit him with to knock him out?

It's not like if you use the hilt of your sword your DM will rule you killed him (unless he sucks.) Just tell the DM you wanna hit him with whatever you deem fun but deal subdual damage.

Maybe I should buy a bat (the wooden pole one not the little evil fury one)?

Maybe I'm confused... I don't understand what's so complicated about this. A Kobold is like an overgrown humanoid iguana... it stands about 2 and a half feet tall and is about half as tough as your elf is. Once you have that thing grappled, you slap it until it falls unconcsious. Simple.

You can use your fist, knuckles or backside. You can use the hilt of your sword. Your elbow. Your boot. Your forehead. A nearby stone. Another kobold.

Your fist alone does up to 3 points of damage a round. That means if you succeed a grapple immediately, you can knock him out in no more than four rounds (that's if you roll a 1 each time you damage him.)

You're thinking too hard. There's no need to buy a Louiseville Slugger of Knocking Kobolds Out. Your elf is more than capable of capturing a kobold with his bare hands.

You can still capture it in a couple rounds... use your sword, subdual damage. Just make sure you have some backup to watch your back... Kobolds fight in numbers.

Kobolds have -4 Strength, and most Kobolds will be wielding sub-par equipment. If he doesnt have a light weapon and you get him in a grapple (which he has -3 to due to his small size and 3 levels of fighter), he can do 1d3 (Right? Regular unnarmed damage for a small-critter?) he can do a maximum of 1 point of subdual damage a turn, assuming he has non-heroic stats.

The question is, why do you want to take the kobold alive? Kobolds, while weak, are still vicious buggers, and if you leave them alive they'll set up traps, ambushes, swarm attacks, or worse, notify their sorcerer buddies to come and blast you away. Kobolds: Serious Business.

actually, i think 1d3 is the damage for medium size unarmed strike.

for a kobold, it would be d2 or something i guess.

Yeah... if you're stupid enough to leave your prisoner unbound and unattended, he would be a major nuisance. That's why most people tie up or lock up thier prisoners and keep them under watch
