Carrying capacity of containers. [Archive] - Wizards Community

05-23-05, 09:21 AM Hi. I'm a relatively new player to D&D (off and on for about a year) and I have a question about containers. I thought it was ridiculously simple at first, but I've scoured my PH, the Arms & Equipment Guide, and various other books I own for the answer and found nothing. So the question is, what are the exact carrying capacities for backpacks, sacks, belt pouches, etc? Basically the containers listed on pages 128-9 of the Player's Handbook. On those pages, they are listed with a footnote after their weight. The corresponding footnote on 129 says, "These items weigh one-quarter this amount when made for Small characters. Containers for Small characters also carry one-quarter the normal amount." That implies that the normal amounts of these containers are listed somewhere, but as far as I have found, they aren't. Even my DM, who has been playing D&D for 25 years, can't find the answer in anywhere she has looked.

I've searched the forums here and still found nothing, so I assume it hasn't been discussed before. If it has, sorry for troubling everybody. Also, it's quite possible the answer is right under my nose, so if that's also the case then again, my apologies. If it hasn't, though, I'd really appreciate a little advice! Thanks a lot!

05-23-05, 11:24 AM Hey, don't sweat it. As far as I'm aware the issue isn't addressed in the core rules- although I think it was in 3.0, evidently they cut that out in 3.5. I didn't know either until someone pointed it out to me :)
