For the magical effects generated by intelligent magical items, some of which include Faerie fire 3/day and cure moderate wounds 3/day, what is the caster level? This mostly becomes pertinent when you're facing stuff with SR and you wonder if you can affect it. Thanks in advance, Prototype00 |
| Pryrates07-14-05, 06:52 PM | In general, or unless stated otherwise, the caster level for items (including Intelligent ones) is equal to the minimum level requirement to cast said spell. Thus an intelligent sword that could cast say fireball 2/day has a caster level of 5 unless of course your DM rules it at being higher then that. Hope this helps. |
| prototype0007-14-05, 06:55 PM | I see, but the confusion enters when one takes into consideration the enhancement bonus of the sword, and possibly weapon special abilities, those too have minimum caster level, should the weapon then be taken as a whole and its CL discerned from there or should each component be regarded seperately? Yeah, that was the conclusion I reached after posting this question a week or so ago. However, what if the item can cast spells of two different levels, such as Faerie Fire and Wall of Fire? Does it cast Faerie Fire as a 7th level Wizard, since that's the required level for Wall of Fire? (As for Fireball, that's a dedicated power, and does 10d6 damage.) |
| Pryrates07-14-05, 07:02 PM | If it has two such spells/abilities I believe that you would use the highest level spell and use that spell minimum caster level requirements. Of course in the end its all up to your DM i'd recommend disucssing the topic with him/her. |
