| ShinAkuma211-01-06, 04:46 PM | The default caster level is the minimum required to cast the spell. A standard CLW potion is CL 1st, thus you get 1d8+1 hp back. |
| Platonix11-01-06, 09:31 PM | Potions can be made at higher level, anywhere between the minimum for that spell and the brewer's own level, so a 7th-level cleric brewing a potion of cure moderate wounds could set the potion's caster level anywhere between 3 and 7. The 7th-level potion costs a lot more, though, so generally, when you buy a potion, assume it's the minimum level. |
| Plothos11-01-06, 10:24 PM | Yeah, a potion of a first level spell and caster level 2 would cost 100gp, not 50gp. For that amount, you could get two potions of 1d8+1 instead of just one that gives you 1d8+2. Needless to say, cure potions are best at their lowest level, money-wise, and that's why you don't see them listed at higher levels (unlike some other potions where the increase in duration or something makes it worthwile to pay more for a higher CL). |
