Can it be done? What if you have the ability to ignore Arcane Spell Failure aka Knight Phantom or Spellsword?

With Still Spell feat or spells that have No Somatic component yes. Beyond that its harder to say.

you must have 1 hand free to complete somatic components.

thus, it is possible, but only if your other hand is free for use to cast spells.

in fact, you could have one hand severed and sitting 20 feet away, and as long as you have the other hand free, you can still cast spells.

You cannot use the Gauntleted hand to cast with once you've locked it. Period. That's what it means, you lock the weapon into place by, basically chaining your hand closed around it. While locked, you can't use it.

Now, as long as your other hand is free(not weilding a weapon, no shield or only a buckler, not holding any items, etc). Then you're good to go.

Now... this is my interpretation mind you, but Im pretty sure that as long as the locked gauntlet is UNLOCKED and not holding anything, that hand can be used for somatic components...

Is there an official ruling for how gauntlets and locked gauntlets affect somatic components when not attached to an armour(such as a Bard with studded leather and spiked gauntlets for weapons... or do the spiked gauntlets count as "weapons", thus negating casting? how about regular gauntlets?)
