| jaelis07-02-07, 02:48 PM | Celerity is a spell in the PHB II that is cast as an immediate action. It lets you take a standard action now, but then you're dazed until your next turn. How do you suppose that would interact with readying? Nominally, you could use your standard action to ready an action, but then it's not obvious when the daze would start. You could just disallow it on principle, but sometimes it makes sense. Like using celerity to counterspell an opponent. |
| Anathema07-02-07, 02:55 PM | You don't need to ready the action granted by Celerity, because its spell description states that you may take the action as if you readied an action already, and that it has the ability to interrupt anothers action. It also says that you are granted a bonus action, and the daze starts as soon as you take this action. I suppose that if, for whatever reason, you cast this spell and then did not take that action you would not be dazed by it. You would still need to take that action as you cast it, you would not be able to hold it in a ready, not that it would make much sense to do so. |

I read the line you mention as just an explanation of how it's an immediate action to cast, but if you take it at face value, it says the celerity action goes off just like a readied action does. So you can counterspell, set your spear against a charge, or whatever. And then there wouldn't be any reason to ready that action itself, any more than it would make sense to ready a readied action.
