I'm sure it's been asked before (as my friends have just brought up to me), but I have yet to find anything mentioned about this form of "armor".

What would or are the "official" stats for a chain mail bikini as actual, non-magical armor?

Thanks in advance.

Obviously they have a +10 Armor Bonus with no Armor check or Arcane Spell Failure.

Really, I suppose, under Fantasy universe laws, it would be about the same as whatever armor you would want the character to wear, just look skimpier.

But seriously: what?

I'd say as padded leather, but less comfortable in the winter ;)

It gives +2 AC, an additional +2 to AC vs. Crits, and forces a will save (DC=absolute value of wearer's CHA bonus+10) or an attacker takes a -2 attack/damage penalty against the wearer b/c either the attacker is distraced or appalled (if a negetive CHA mod... and depending on personal preferance.)

If push comes to shove, I'd make a Chainmail Bikini a style of magic armor that converts a wearer's Charisma score into a defense bonus.

No AC bonus whatsoever, they don't cover vital areas. A sword through the intestines will kill rather effectively.

No official stats. The (im)Mature Board decided it provides a Revealment bonus to AC equal to the absolute value of the wearer's Charisma modifier.

I am almost really glad I'm not able to view the mature boards. This is what they talk about? I was hoping for heated discussion about the nature of morality... What am I saying, this is the internet.

I mean, a Revealment bonus? AC bonus for being half-naked. Sad...

As far as I can see, a chainmail bikini, or any of the other revealing "armor" (personally, I prefer skimpy, soft and tight leather with little more coverage than the chainmail bikini) would provide negligible protection.
However, perhaps they could be enchanted as bracers--after all, bracers also provide negilgible physical protection, but significant magical protection.
If you balk at this, since bracers use a different slot, require that the "armor"/ bracers be enchanted with the surcharge for not using a slot.
With skimpy armor that's more covering than a bikini, you might consider using the ceremonial armor rules.
Now you all can have your chainmail bikini/ tight fitting leather, or whatever--if you are vain enough and RICH enough.
Incidently, it might well still require light armor proficiency.

I would consider it as Padded Armor, with a +2 bonus to Persuasion checks vs males.

Ahh, good point.

Padded armor with a +2 circumstance bonus to persuade, against members of the opposite gender then.

Chain mail bikinis would offer no real protection, but revealing, provacative armor isn't all that hard to depict. Look at pretty much any female character in any Ebberron book that isn't a Shifter. Plus, you could just make it Mithril Chainshirt.

Elves are into that sleek look in their armor, at least judging from the official pictures in the DMG (see the Mithril Chainsuit for details on what I mean). It is not hard to imagine that they would design armor that could be flipped over and function as a sort of poncho during moments of heated combat, but that could be flipped over the head and down the back when lounging to be more revealing/cooler/comfortable.

You don't need new stats for everything. Use the DMGs idea for simply making flavorful changes to existing objects and rules.

I fall squarely in the "it doesn't help" camp.

I'd also give zero additional benefits.

The sort of thing that is being talked about is purely based off of the Diplomacy and Bluff skills. If a person (of any gender) wants to make a Diplomacy or Bluff check, go for it. The DM has the discretion to give circumstancial bonuses, but this shouldn't be due to one particular type of non-magical equipment.

Anything based off of gender is suspect too. It's a "mature topic", but not everything follows the "opposites attract" rule. We don't need to get into that any further.

Point is, mundane items shouldn't provide skill bonuses unless the bonuses apply evently for any character using that item and it's not subjective. A healer's kit is a good example. Something that relies on someone "finding something attractive" is clearly a poorly designed item.

This is a good point. Rules in the 3.5 PHB exist for providing skill bonuses on certain checks (see Masterwork Tool in the equipment section).

Do you have any Idea what a Two-handed sword, 2 handed Batle Axe, or even a Vorpal Sword is gonna do to unarmored legs...especially when it is a called shot against (I am guessing) bare flesh legs?

Same weapons to the Mid-section as a called short (Assuming 2 piece) would be equally devastating

No, I would say its nothing more then "Eye Candy" and wouldn't count as Armor as all.

If She, assuming its a she...never no in this day and age, wants to live 10 seconds in a fierce battle she she better be really skilled, have a shield, and even some magic to protect her otherwise bare ass.

If someone REALLY wanted to have a chainmaile bikini and expected to receive an armor bonus then I'd _require_ the armor to be Glamered (http://d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicArmor.htm#glamered). This way the armor still functions as armor but it can "look differently". Nobody with half a brain would ever believe that simply covering their breasts with maile would provide adequate protection.

This way the DM can talk about her boobs all he wants and she still has armor covering her mid section.

The reason I'm asking is some friends watched a BAD fantasy movie of some sort and joked that when it's that bad the producers should throw in a lot of t and a. That started them joking about the chain mail bikini and they were wondering what its stats would be.

They asked me to post the question since one doesn't have the internet and the other refuses to register for anything on the net.

Thank you VERY much for the replies everyone! It has been both entertaining and enlightening. :D

Either the Quintessential Temptress, Nymphology, or the Book of Erotic Fantasy dealt with something like this. I think it was Temptress, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, it was an armor modification that made it more revealing. It reduced the AC bonus by a small amount (1 or 2) and reduced the check penalty by an equally small amount (1 or 2). It may have boosted the max dex bonus by 1 as well.

If you really want to know exactly, I could look that up later for you :p

Let me quote the Players Handbook "Chain Shirt"
A chain shirt protects your torso while leaving your limbs free and mobile. It includes a layer of quilted fabric worn underneath to prevent chafing and to cushion the impact of blows. A chain shirt comes with a steel cap.

It sounds like characters in your game are in a bit of trouble if they wear the best Light armor from the PH.

Chain Shirt does not sound so far away from Chain Mail Bikini from a rules point of view, imo. Maybe 1 less AC or something, along with reduced armor check penalty as well.

... Was that the one with the really muscle-y women with automatic weaponry? The whole "Post-Male-Eating-Plague" one? I cracked up when I saw that down at the hobby shop, but I didn't read the mechanics.

If D&D had called shots, that might be a concern. As HP are purely abstract, it makes no difference. :)

I'd say it would have no mechanical benefit. However, you count as being in contact with metal for the purposes of chill metal, heat metal, and hot/cold environments. But hey, look on the bright side: at least it doesn't increase your ACP or ASF rate!

Honestly, you might as well stop beating around the bush and go naked. At least that way you're comfortable and don't have to deal with pinching and pulling or _____ Metal spells. 'Course, if you're going to do that, you may want to be a spellcaster or archer instead of a frontliner.

<Edit>
Seriously, I've never seen that thread, so here I go....
Chainmail Bikini
Mechanical stats like chain shirt. In addition, if the character is a humanoid female with a BMI within the normal range and has a +ve CHA mod, then the character gains +1 unamed (this is not mature boards) AC.

Let's not forget about the guys now..... equal rights for the girls. :D
Leather Lioncloth
Mechanical stats like leather armor. In addition, if the character is a humanoid male with a BMI within the normal range and has a +ve CHA mod, then the character gains +1 unamed (this is not mature boards) AC.

*No offence to monstrous character's but the humanoid restriction is temporarily set. Monstrous equivalent of these armors will be made available once everyone is satisfied that the current prototypes are balanced.

No,no,no

Something like this (metal Bikini)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/TheRealArchangel/metalbikini.jpg

Will never ever give the same protection as this (chain Shirt)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/TheRealArchangel/chainshirt.jpg

How can you possibly compare a Chain shirt (light Chain Mail) that covers from the shoulder to the mid thigh (and i'ts "cap" covering the head like that) to a 2 piece metal bikini and expect so little armor covering "strategic places" to block a good swing of the sword to that exposed midsection of the wearer of the metal bikini?

In fact that metal Braziers cleavage area can work for a "Called Shot" straight for the heart and and those metal rims would help guide the strike right through as the rapier bounces off the inside of the metal Brazier

and this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v44/TheRealArchangel/chaintop.jpg

would fair no better no matter how small you make the links cause chain and metal in general chaffs...note shirt under chain bra and padding under metal bra

I'm sorry The WarOverlord, but I quoted the Players Handbook.
Your picture has a chain coif (not steel cap, so in yours, the neck is protected), half sleeves, and practically goes down to his knees. That is a lot closer to D&D Chainmail, than a chain shirt. I'd link a picture of a T-shirt but I think you know what one looks like.

I did not say that a chain bikini would have as good of an AC as a chain shirt but that it is close. 1 AC off +4 is 25%, 2 would be half. So go with +2 AC if you want.

And D&D does not have called shots...
