Are there rules anywhere for how a chian sword(like Ivy uses in soul caliber) might work?

I've made something just like it, here you go.

Whipsword:
One-handed exotic weapon
1st form: 1d8 slashing damage 19-20x2
2nd form: 1d8 slashing damage 19-20x2, Reach weapon, +2 bonus on opposed disarm rolls, ability to trip.
Hardness 10 HP 2 Weight 6lbs. Cost: 300gp
The whipsword is a strange weapon, at first it appears much like any other longsword if only slightly heavier but upon closer examination it can be seen that it has many segments locked together. As a move action the whipsword may change into whip form by pressing the small release switch on the hilt that causes the pieces to span out into a long whip-like structure and restored to sword form as a standard action. If the owner has the Quick Draw feat, it is a free action to change into whip form and a move action to return into sword form.

I posted this for a sword whip, but its the same thing:

Sword Whip
Exotic one handed melee weapon
1d6 x2 melee slashing reach 10ft
Price: 50gp Weight: 5lb

A Sword Whip is a sectional sword, with ends connected by an elastic-like substance. It can expand to strike foes up to 10ft away, but does not threaten those squares. Additionally, unlike most other weapons with reach, you can use it against foes anywhere within your reach (including adjacent foes).

You can make trip attacks with a sword whip. If you are tripped during your own trip attempt, you can drop the sword whip to avoid being tripped.

Note that much of the stuff Ivy *does* with the sword is something unique to her, or the Soul Edge, not the chain sword itself.

This has been coming up a lot lately. To avoid people crying "munchkin", I normally just use the stats for a spiked chain (for a two-handed weapon), or a kusari-gama (from the DMG) for one-handed weapon.

Or better, a similar valid weapon:
Whip-Dagger (DU134 p50)
1Hand 1d6 19-20 / x2 — S
Bard, Trip, Disarm +2, Finesse, Shared Proficiency (Whip)
Reach 15’ & Threaten Adjacent
Attacking generates an Attack of Opportunity

just because I want to add a flare of the obserd;

Chain and a half sword
Two-handed exotic weapon.
1d10 19-20 x2 slashing *range 5ft (max 15ft),+2 trip&disarm(10ft max)

There are two forms to the sword, the first is when it is unextended, where it looks like a mechanicaly augmented bastard sword and behaves exactly as a bastard sword. a dial near the hilt of the blade allows the weilder to activate the sword's secondary whip from. in this form the weapon is treated as a ranged weapon with a range increment of 5ft and a max range of 15 ft. The weilder of this sword may only uses one hand to hold the sword but must keep his other free to provide balance, thus he gains no bonus for weilding two handed. when in the whip form the user gains a +2 bonus to trip and disarm checks at up to 10 ft, at 15 ft the bonus decreases to +1 to disarm and trip checks.

it is a move-action to change forms, except with the quickdraw feat.

If the user takes the extoic weapon prof. chain and a half sword (5ft) feat they may attack opponants 5 ft away in the secondary form without occuring an attack of oppertunity at a -2 to the attack role.

you may not cleave with this weapon.

Jeez, this is more broken than the spiked chain. You got:

-1d10 damage
- 19-20 x2
- disarm
- trip
- reach
- attach adjacent

Its a spiked chain with more damage and a better crit!
