OK, we all know this is in fact, the REAL uber weapon, not the katana :P , So, I was thinking about stats for this, and I would be very pleased to hear anybody elses thoughts on the subject of the chainsaws stats, I'm only going to state my vague ideas for damage, and of course, throw balance out the window in doing so.
66d2, 17-20 x4
I'm thinking about upping the critical, or maybe even making the d2 a d3, I'm also thinking that this item could be magically activated, instead of mechanically, and of course, give an extra bonus against fighting the undead :D . I look forward to what others have to say.

Thinking about putting it into a camaign, as an artifact of course, I wanted to see what other people have to say, and, try to figure out what its exact abilities should be...

66d2? Uhhh. No.

Maybe 3d6 or 3d4damage, but chainsaws are horrible weapons in real life. They are loud, heavy, slow, and don't cut nearly as well as those silly horror films will have you believe.

So it'd be 3d6 (or 3d4) x2 weapon that...deals slashing damage.

Probably impairs a -2 AC due to the sheer bulk.

So:
Exotic Weapon Proficency:
Chainsaw 3d4(s) 3d6(m) x2 Slashing

I'm going to regret this but:

Chainsaw, 2 handed exotic (improvised) weapon
2d4/x2 slashing (s), 2d6/x2 (m), weight: 30 lbs.

The trauma caused by a criticl hit with a chainsaw would be greater than x2.

Exotic Two Handed Weapon 3d6 (x4)

Edit: or better yet 3d6 (x2) Maiming (Roll 1d4 to determine its Critical Multiplier)

I see, what if it was a specially adapted "war" Chainsaw... maybe a little better fitted to the indivdual. or maybe its strapped to their hand like a gauntlet type deal. tossin out Ideas hear, and I still want to hear what other people think the stats to a chainsaw should be...

So we're talking Ash then, right?

Even then, go with what's posted above. At the very most, you may want to apply a Wounding affect on crits since a chainsaw "rips" more than it "cuts".

At the end of the day, a chainsaw is not a suitable weapon. It's bulky, nowhere close to weighted properly (the weight is in the butt of the chainsaw, not at the blade), relies on a motor, is loud and was never intended to harm people.

Not to toot my own horn but I think the stats I presented are as good as your going to get.

OK then, well, now I have the base of what the item should be, now all I need to do is work on what powers it could have... what artifact type powers would you give a chainsaw?
Chainsaw, Exotic Weapon
3d6/ 19-20x4
weight, 20lbs
And, I'm thinking for sure this thing should be magically activated, not mechanically, so no motor, which should help the weight, but now I'm not exactly sure what its handle would look like... I'm getting an image of a chainsaw/sword for some reason...

The more you try to "simplify" the more you're getting away from something that'd be recognizable as a "chainsaw".

It may be better to simply design something from scratch that suits your needs.

If there's no motor, then why not get rid of the chain and make the "blade" part of the chainsaw covered in ever-moving energy that cuts and slashes "like it were steel"?

If you're making an artifact, then who cares - it can do whatever you want!

In Warhammer 40k (a miniature based game for those who do not know) there is a weapon called a "Chain Sword". It's kinda like the weapon that the Heavy Metal chick in that pic (linked above) has, but it's generally only one sided/single "edged".

Anyhow, maybe this "Artifact" could instead be a weapon from either the future or another dimension (or both), maybe infused with some kind of magic upon arriving in a D&D type of world. OR, maybe its abilities are merely SEEN as magical. That might be a cool twist.

Possible powers? Keen, sundering abilities/bonuses/feats, sonic (mind effecting) powers like causing fear (due to the horrible noise it emits), Smiting (as per the Destruction domain), Cleave/Great Cleave/Supreme Cleave abilities.
