Changes to combat in 3.5 [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-10-06, 01:35 PM Hi, my group is currently using 3E and we are considering changing to 3.5. Is there any modification to the combat chapter/rules of the PHB in 3.5 ? If so how minor or major are the changes ?

04-10-06, 03:02 PM Some of the more significant changes:

1) DR was radically altered. Numbers went down significantly, but types flourished. a +5 weapon no longer beat someone that had DR/silver.

2) Weapon size changed. What in 3.0 would be called a Large sized Sword, became EITHER a) A medium sized two handed weapon or b) A Large sized long sword for an Ogre.

A human wielding the Large sized long sword for an Ogre has a -2 to hit, and the ogre wielding the two handed human sword also has a -2 to hit.

This also resulted in some changes to the feat Monkey Grip. In general, Monkey Grip is not a good feat anyway.

3) The Reach rules for incorrectly sized weapons in Savage Species went away. Now reach weapons always double your reach, but only if you are their size or smaller.

4) Whips became a melee weapon that did no threaten instead of a ranged weapon.

5) shuriken went to 1/attack but allowed strength bonuses to hit, instead 3/attack with no strength.
