Changing bounuses? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-04-07, 11:41 PM I'm currently trying to play an Artificer and I need a bit of help with bonuses. I'm trying to help our cleric with Wisdom bonuses and can't seem to locate any items that add anything other than an Enhancement or inherent bonus. My question is, are there any pre-made item that give other types of bonuses to basis stats, and if not, what would be the cost modifier to change an enhancement bonus to something like a competence bonus?

(Two questions that have NOTHING to do with this: 1.) What does the term "Splat book" mean? 2.) What does "P.E.A.C.H." mean?)

06-05-07, 01:58 AM Splat book pretty much means anything outside of 'core' + primary setting book, core is usually defined as PHB, DMG, and MM, though some people define anything in the SRD as core (such as me).

06-05-07, 02:00 AM i haven't seriously looked, but i would doubt that anything gave the other kinds of bonuses. anything besides enhancement tends to be worth a lot more (exactly because it's rare and hard to replicate. enhancement bonuses are the basic magical bonuses).

Depending on who you ask, the answer will range anywhere from "double the cost of equivalent items using standard bonus types" to "never."

Me, I'm a fairly liberal gamer, so I'd be okay with the double cost thing. Ie, a +2 competence, insight, luck, or sacred/profane bonus to an ability score would be worth 8,000 gp instead of 4,000, a +4 bonus would be 32,000 gp instead of 16,000, and a +6 bonus would be 72,000 gp instead of 36,000. Keep in mind, this would still be more affordable and abusable than using wishes or manuals/tomes, which are the typical recourse after capping out enhancement bonuses.

PEACH is "Please evaluate and critique honestly", or if you prefer, 'c' could stand for criticize (hopefully constructively).
