First, hello to all.
I`m new here and from germany (think some of you don`t know where to find on a map :) ), so don`t mind about my english.

Well, i`ve got a question nobody could answer me on the german d&d community boards.

So, here we go:
Is there any way to change the type of damage of arrows from piercing to normal bludgeoning, not subdual damage?

I wanted to pick the "ranged sunder" feat from the cw for my archer, but i don`t know how to overcome the hardness of 10 of a longsword or so while ranged weapons that deal piercing damage do only half the damage of a bludgeoning weapon.

There is no way that I know of, short of making a type of arrow with a blunted tip. I don't know enough about real-life weapons and physics and stuff to tell you if that would in any way hinder the efficiency of the arrow, though.

I'm pretty sure that you can't do subdual damage with an arrow, anyway, though.

So Germany is that blue one right above the Netherlands, right? That's what I was thinking, because all of us Americans are stupid like that . . .

Hey, sorry, but i never said americans are stupid and i don`t think that.
Maybe i used the wrong words.
I`m really sorry.
But if anyone wants to nuke me, look at the map. I live under the "e" of cologne. :D

Now back to topic:
I`m sad that there`s no better answer to my question.
How do you handle this if you or one of your players uses the ranged sunder feat? How to overcome the hardness of metal weapons with a bow?
In normal with a bow you would have to deal 22 points of damage to a longsword to overcome the hardness to deal 1 point of damage to the weapon. That`s nearly impossible, isn`t it?

It is, although I think you have a few things mixed up. First, you don't just double the hardness or anything when sundering weapons with your ranged weapon. Halve the damage you do, then apply hardness.

There are a few ways to bypass hardness, though. Adamantine arrows will ignore hardness of less than 20. A single adamantine arrow costs 60 gold and 5 copper. Also, I think there is a sundering enhancement in the psionics book that halved hardness, as well. So, with the two of those, you could, theoretically, ignore hardness of less than 40.

Other than somehow making your arrows bludgeoning, though, there is no way that I know of to prevent losing half your damage.

Maybe you could find a way to double your damage, then the hlfing of it would be elimenated.

or you could rob a bank to buy some adamantine arrows.

Isn't germany were Uncle Adolf lived. my dad lived in germany. and most americans learn where Germay is by 8th grade.

While it is possible to use a blunt head on an arrow (or bolt) you are not going to do much damage with it. IRL, blunts are used to hunt birds. If you have ever been hit by a paintball you will have some idea how damaging a blunt arrow is going to be. You are definitely not going to be shattering any weapons or shields with it.

Since you live in Germany, do you have a Diet of Worms?

Adamantine arrowheads are the best way to go, as they'd bypass the hardness value of weapons and armor entirely.

Nonlethal arrows, eh? Here's your nonlethal arrows (http://www.bookofratings.com/arrows.html).

These also work for nonlethal damage. (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/magicWeapons.htm#sleepArrow)

Thanx for the answers, they helped pretty much.
And i`ve read the feat a second time (If you can read, you are in advantage.). :D
I misunderstood the passage about hardness.
Next time my character will buy some adamantine arrows.

Special thanx to masterofmayhem (for the PM,too).
