A charge breaker is an exotic throwing weapon. It resembles a very long quarterstaff in basic shape. However, it is made completely of metel. Also, it is twice as tall as the wielder.

This weapon is used to break-up multiple charging opponets. The wielder, throws the Charge breaker so that it spins on a horizantil plane towards the charging opponents. For a medium sized wielder, the Charge-breaker flies in a ten-foot wide path. Any charging opponent in that path, must make a reflex save (DC = wielders BAB + Dex mod.) or be knocked prone. If chargers are mounted, then either the animal or the rider must make the save (50% chance either way.)

If the animale must make the save and fails, then both mount and rider fall prone (15% chance rider takes crushing damage from mount.) If the rider must make the save and fails, then the rider is knocked of the mount and suffers falling damage (distance equals mounts speed.) The mount continues charging and may bull rush the wielder.

Whoever fails the reflex save, is stunned for 1d4 rounds.

If there are multiple rows of charging foes, then Charge-breaker only hits the first row to fail the reflex save (unless wieder has great cleave; in which case the Charge-breaker can travel through up to three additional rows.) If a rider is knocked prone with other mounts behind him, then he takes trample damage for each additional row behind him.

I was just fooling around and came up with this. What do ya'll think?

As bizarre as this 'weapon' sounds, it's not that different in form or purpose from a 'kaber' - the scotts would throw what amounted to telephone poles to break up troop formations. IIRC, the kaber even made it into a D&D suplement somewhere...

The caber appears on page 27 of Masters of the Wild (now out of print). You basically threw it at a 10' section to hit a low AC, and forced those in that square to make a save or me moved backward. If they couldn't move, they took damage.

Good for moving a couple targets, but not for breaking a charge. Best thing you can do to break a charge is set a spear/pike/etc.

Are you kidding? If you've readied an attack against the charge with a caber and the enemy takes his save and moves out of the way, then he's no longer making straight line movement over the round, and his charge is ruined.

The save is a Reflex of DC = your attack roll.
I'd not thought about the readied action. That is a great idea. Unfortunately, the caber is listed as being a 100lb. weapon :(
Now, how would one engineer a caber that started out club-sized when you threw it, and grew to full size after it left your hand? That'd be brilliant.
