Cheap & Effective Items for Higher Levels [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-12-07, 03:59 PM I would like to use this thread to include all items (under say 10,000 gp) that a 15th level or higher character would still like to have. I'll start:

*Ring of sustenance (even an unslotted version is under 10,000)
*Boots of striding and springing (even an unslotted...IIRC, or its dang close)
*Dagger +1 Keen
*Silversheen
*Dust of Disappearance
*Dust of Appearance

I would not name the dusts, they are not low cost equipment, they are extreamly expecive expentables.

Then, a mage nearly never grows out of his lesser metamagic rods. Just because he will have better once does not mean, the old get useless.

A lot of this question obviously depends on the question, how liberal the dm is. I Dusty rose Ioun stone is great, Insight bonus to AC - hoever, the player will obviously want to enchant it to a +2 bonus at some point.

04-13-07, 12:42 AM A Gray Bag of Tricks is highly useful. There's the obvious stuff, like scouting or setting off traps. And then there are the quirky uses that function off killing creatures; the Gray Bag is simply the cheapest way by far to get such creatures.

-Assimilate (+4 bonus to all ability scores, 20d6 temporary hit points)
-Soul Crystal + Mindfeeder scythe + Power Attack + Coup-de-grace (minor nova capability, due to temporary PP fueling the costs on Soul Crystal)
-Persistent Consumptive Field (bonuses to Strength and CL)
-Magic Jar + Death Throes (living bombs)
-Fell Animate + Corpsecrafter line of feats + AoE spells (undead bombs)

Another such item is Dust of Sneezing and Choking. It's considered to be abusive, given its no-save stunning effect.
