I want alchemy to have a larger part in my campaign world, to compensate for the fact that it's relatively low-magic. The first step is obviously to remove the "must be a caster" from the Craft (Alchemy) table, but the second step - creating a variety of useful, relatively cheap, but balanced alchemical items that players would want to create and use on a regular basis - well, it has me somewhat stymied.

So far, i've only come up with a few things. Obvously, alchemist's frost will be in there, and i like the idea of making oils of flaming or frosting weapon through alchemy, since actual flaming or frosting weapons will be damned hard to come by. I draw the line at a flask of electricity, but a kind of primitive cattle prod could be nifty.

Then there's blasting powder, of course, for the dwarven rifles. I haven't decided on its damage or cost per ounce yet, but that's in there.

But that's where i get stuck. So i'm wondering, what ideas do people have for alchemical items? I want this to be an important part of my gameworld, with gnomes blowing up their shops and each other in weekly accidents in every major city.

If you want pyrophilic Gnomes, you've got one right here ^^

First of all, you can't say Alchemy without (Siege) Engineering. I myself know how to make cheap rocket launchers with only minimal magic, and seeing as you have gunpowder, you can do it without magic.
Long metal tube, permanent Gust of Wind or gunpowder, and a bottle filled with Alchemist's Fire or similar stuff...

Just think of modern (or even futuristic) stuff, and think about how one could accomplish that with the means available in your world...

Salves with healing capabilities, hardened stuff, glue, all kinds of less-useful but intriguing things... Something Napalm-like, perhaps?

As for actual Alchemical items, just say that Potions are now alchemical or something... That mostly shows 'em that this is a world heavy on the Boom-boom ;)
