| Kimokeo03-29-06, 05:41 PM | I can't find details on how big these things are and how much they can carry. The PHB gives encumbrance but not dimension or capacity. Anyone know the answers? |
| Yoshimatsu03-29-06, 09:27 PM | I would guess it would just be how large the specific container is. |

Actually i'm not sure where i got most of the vvalues from, however you could use it as a starting point. i'll go hunt down where i could find it. |
| Kimokeo03-29-06, 09:46 PM | Thanks, I'm still looking. I have some old Dragon Magazines and I know they gave a lot of details in one of them. In fact, one actually broke down, according to the size of a coin, how many would actually fit in a chest. Just because it could hold 200 lbs didn't mean 200 lbs of coin would fit in it. I thought the dimensions were in the 2nd edition books and I'm pouring over them now - they had iron and wood type chests, large and small, baskets/backpacks/pouchs/sacks - all with dimensions. I just wish I could remember where those statistics are. If I find mine, I'll post them. |
| Puca03-30-06, 10:29 AM | The "Rules of the Game" article by Skip Williams on Going Metric has a table of carrying capacities. |
| Psifon03-30-06, 11:33 AM | Just a piece of advice: Don't worry about it. You can guestimate how much gold you can carry around, and believe the DM when he says you have too much to carry, and for the most part the game will work just fine. Getting into this level of detail doesn't really enhance play too much. |
| strumbleduck03-30-06, 03:34 PM | I agree. Sacks are basically free, so you don't need to worry about how many of them your PCs are carrying around, or how much each individual sack can hold. |
| tarkin03-30-06, 03:53 PM | Yes. The real limit is weight, not size. People should generally be able to strap extra things on somehow. |
| Fighter103-30-06, 08:11 PM | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/rg/20040406a Read through it - closer to the middle and bottom of the article to find capacities. I just say that these in the article are for medium creatures with average containers; so if someone wants to buy and extra large backpack for a medium creature I add to the capacity it can hold (and weight of the item itself, etc.). I just break the cost and weight down to units and calc from there. |
