| Loki_Doorslayer06-01-07, 02:24 PM | I want to give a pair of these to my Martial Monk/fighter, but I can't find any stats for them. Can anyone help? |
| Tempest Stormwind06-01-07, 02:32 PM | Secrets of Sarlona, an excellent Eberron book, details weapons common in Sarlona and Adar. Those two nations have many things in common with China and Tibet; one of them would be their exotic weaponry (http://wizards.com/dnd/images/sarlona_gallery/102999.jpg). The hook sword is statted out there -- I'd give a summary but I'm away from my books at the moment. |
| Knightblde06-01-07, 03:05 PM | Please do, I was just watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and I had some ideas for these. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-01-07, 05:37 PM | Please do, I was just watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and I had some ideas for these. I just got home; here's the general summary. You can strike with either the spike or the hook, which deal shortsword/longsword damage respectively. It also has a boost on disarm checks and counts as a monk weapon. Naturally, it's exotic. |
| Loki_Doorslayer06-27-07, 08:10 PM | Does anyone have the exact stats from Secrets of Sarlona for the swords now? Or from another source? |
| Tempest Stormwind06-27-07, 08:17 PM | Does anyone have the exact stats from Secrets of Sarlona for the swords now? Or from another source? You're asking us to give you the benefit for free. That's against the CoC. Either look it up in a bookstore or buy the book. (I suggest the latter; it's an EXCELLENT book in general.) You can, however, derive almost everything you need to know about it from my description above. |
| tafkamhokie06-27-07, 10:19 PM | I don't have any official stats, but I have used them before and can give you an informed opinion. There is absolutely, positively no way these things can deal longsword damage. The blade on the back of the weapon is nothing more than a dagger and the long bladed portion cannot be used to thrust and the majority of the "blade" is not even sharp. The hook is used for trips and disarms. So it can clearly be used for those (and I would throw in the same +2 to disarm checks that most flexible or hooked weapons give). To deal damage, you use either the crescent blade as a slashing weapon or the hilt blade as a thrusting weapon. Either way, it is no more effective than a dagger. I would call them a light exotic weapon. Light because they really are lightweight and because they are definitely made to be used in pairs. TWF just does not work if they are not light. Damage is no better than dagger (1d4, 19-20). Can be used for trips and disarms (with a +2 on disarm checks). A monk who is proficient with the weapon can treat it as a special monk weapon. That is probably nowhere close to their actual stats, but that is what those swords really can do. |
| AAB06-27-07, 10:19 PM | other people have asked for stats on these weapons before. here's my suggestion for how to run them: exotic 1handed weapon 1d8 19-20/x2 crit can be used for trip attempts +2 to disarm and that move in the movie where she hooks them together to extend her reach? take the feat "lunging strike" or whatever from (i believe) PHBII. |
| Watsyurname52906-27-07, 11:11 PM | Here is the stats i made for the Hooked Sword, you can also find more weapons like this in the 1001 Homebrew Things thread, just check my sig. Hooked Sword (Weapon) Exotic Light Weapon Cost: 20gp Weight: 2 lbs Damage: 1d6 Slashing / 1d4 Piercing Critical: 19-20/x2 (for the sword) / x2 (for the curved blade in front of the grip) Range: -- Description: This sword looks to be a short sword with a hook at the end, it also as a curved cresent blade in front of the grip. This blade functions similar to a short sword. You can attack with the Hooked Sword as you would a short sword. Also you can attack with the curved cresent part in front of the grip as a 1d4 Piercing weapon. This weapon gives a +2 bonus on rolls made to disarm an enemy (as well as the roll to avoid being disarmed). Also, this can be used to make trip attacks. If used to make a sneak attack, this weapon deals +1 dmg as the hook tears up the flesh as it slashes across the body. |
| The Crimson Dawn06-28-07, 01:33 AM | Actually in Secrets of Sarlona they do have a style feat with the hook swords where you hook them together and use them as a reach weapon which is kinda sweet. |
