Are there rules for this special action outlined in the PHB? DMG? Would it be similar to drowning? If so, where are the rules for drowning?

kthnx ;)

I can't think of any special rules; beyond a creature with a clearly outlined Constrict attack; like a Pit Fiend.

Anyone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but I figure it'd be a normal grapple check, forgoing damage then applying drowning rules, for however long you can maintain said grapple until the subject either breaks the hold, or dies.

Alternitivly if your using a device to strangle them, such as a chain or garrote, which has a normal Damage die, you can apply that damage per-check along with drowning rules; the same could feisably be ruled for Unarmed Damage, if you were strangling with your bare hands.

DMG pg. 303 smoke effects for choking you damage yourself after failing 2 times a progressivly harder fort save.

Garrote rules are in Song and Silence book pg. 86.
