I need some clarifications on what full-round actions can allow. For instance in what happen in the last session we had: can someone drop their bow, draw a melee weapon (w/o Quick Draw), 5-foot step, and attack with the melee weapon?

Yes. The number of free actions in a round is only limited by what the DM feels is sensible. That is, the rules state no limit on them. Dropping a weapon is free and a five-foot-step is free (though that special instance has a limit of once per round and it only usable if the character hasn't moved). Drawing is a move and attacking (though not full attacking) is a standard, which together make a round. If the character wanted, they could also make a Knowledge check (free), scream something (free), and enter rage (free) in that turn as well.

However, to nit-pick, what you describe is not a full-round action. A full-round action is an action that takes a full round. What you described is a series of actions that constitue a round.

Ever noticed how the posting volume plummets around 4 a.m. EST?

Attack once, yeah.

Broken down:
Dropping of bow = free action
Drawing of sword = move action (without quick draw)
5 foot move = free action
Making a melee attack = standard action

5 foot move = free action

The 5ft step isn't a free action.

Quickdraw is a free action if the character has a +1 AB, so what you propose is possible by a 1lvl fighter type, or most any 2nd lvl character.

Actually, characters with a +1 BAB may only freely draw their weapon as part of a move action, and the 5-ft step action doesn't count. So it would require the full move action to draw a melee weapon unless they had the Quick Draw feat.

Actually, characters with a +1 BAB may only freely draw their weapon as part of a move action, and the 5-ft step action doesn't count. Not just as part of a move action, but as part of a regular move which, although not an official game term, I have seen defined as a move action used to move up to the character's speed (please don't ask for a source on that definition - I can't remember where I saw it, just that it came from one of the designers. It might have been Sage Advice, a FAQ answer, or a Rules of the Game article). - Just didn't want Shoes getting the false impression that simply by having a +1 BAB you could draw as a free action while, say, opening a door (which is a move action but not a 'regular move'). No more than you could during a 5-foot step, anyhow.

But to confirm, yes, a character could do all those things in a single round (but not a surprise round), and without any minimum BAB requirement. Although as SD mentioned, it would not be a full-round action; it would be a free action (drop bow), a move action (draw melee weapon), a "no" action (the 5-foot step; happy now, Egres? ;)), and a standard action (melee attack). The 5-foot step doesn't prevent the character from taking move actions such drawing a weapon, if that was the reason behind the OP and/or spyderfreek's post; just from actually moving, or making a 'regular move' if you prefer.
