| Tethryn Lahralein07-10-06, 07:44 PM | Awhile back, in some official publication, I found a wondrous item cloak that allowed the wearer to hide in plain sight, just as a shadowdancer would. However, a year or two after glancing over it, I can't seem to remember where it was found. I've checked my stack of Dragon mags and my small library of D&D official publications, and I can't find it yet. I'm 99% certain it was an official publication that listed this item; true to form, I think it was called something like the "Cloak of Night" or "Shadow Cloak" or some such. Anyone remember this item or know where it was found? Alternatively, I could go with the following formula... since a shadowdancer requires a 7th level character to start into the class (10 ranks in hide minimum so...), which allows Hide in Plain Sight as a supernatural ability, perhaps it could be considered the equivalent of a 4th level spell (since 7th level casters have access to 4th level spells). 7 x 4 = 28, x 2000 (for use-activated or continuous item) = 56,000; to duplicate the ability, the item takes up space, and also is a spell-like ability equivalent instead of a Supernatural ability (and thus can be dispelled temporarily; (Su) abilities require AMFs to stop working); thus, round the item down to 50,000... |

| KmartKommando07-11-06, 03:35 AM | Sure, you can have one. It'll just cost you 3 feats, a bunch of skill points and a small loss of base class abilities. aka, the Shadowdancer PrC. Then, all your clothing can do what this cloak does. |

| DarknessEternal07-11-06, 12:41 PM | There's such an item in the Shadow magic section of Tome of Magic. |
| Psifon07-11-06, 01:16 PM | There is an item in the Tome of Magic that lets you take a form that grants you hide in plain sight. It is a collar, and costs 12 or 22K depending on the amount of time you want it to work. |
| tui07-11-06, 01:54 PM | There's such an item in the Shadow magic section of Tome of Magic. Ahh yes, the Collar of Umbral Metamorphosis gives the Dark template, which in turns give HiPS along with lots of other very useful abilities. I think the pricing for the Collar is WAY too low at 22K. |
| Yue Ryong07-11-06, 07:51 PM | The CoUM (despite the fact that it should be notably more expensive) uses perhaps the weakest version of HiPS to be found. Not working while 'in natural light' essentially cuts out about 2/3 of all possible opportunities for adventure or use, including any time you're in sunlight, moonlight, starlight and (depending on the harshness of your DM) firelight. In effect, you need to be magically lighted to not be affected by the restriction. |
