| Witchcraft03-26-07, 06:11 PM | Hello! I am a bit confused about a cloak of charisma. I have heard many MANY diffrent things about what a +2 cloak of chaisma would grant. Does it effect bonus spells and skills bonuses? Thanks!!!! W.C |

The cloak of charisma increases your Cha score, which therefore increases your charisma modifier, which therefore increases anything based on that modifier. Your increased modifier applies to bonus spells, spell DC's, skill modifiers, and the DC of any cha-based abilities you may have (like most spell-like abilities). The only exception to a stat increasing item not having total effect on everything dependent on that stat is the Headband of Intellect. The Headband of Intellect increases your Int, but does not increase the number of skill points you gain per level. This exception is explicitly stated in the item's description. |

If your cha was 12 before the cloak, it's 14 with the cloak. Thus the bonus from having a high charisma score increases from +1 (at CHA12) to +2 (at CHA14). This is the "charisma bonus" that will make a (big or small) difference for your character. Many skills are affected by that charisma bonus. Skills like Gather Information, Handle Animal, Bluff and Diplomacy (and others) get new bonus from your increased charisma (so +1 by the example). Spell saving throws for Sorcerers and Bards (both are classes that use Charisma as their "spellcasting stat") increase the same way the skills do. These classes also get some bonus spells-per-day. Clerics gain that bonus to their undead turning or commanding checks. Paladins can heal more hitpoints via their lay-on-hands class ability, and other class abilities too. the bonus makes you attract more followers (and a more powerful cohort) if you have the Leadership feat. For some special creatures, such as demons, angels or other creatures with spell-like abilities (or certain supernatural abilities), an increase in charisma makes those powers somewhat more effective. This is all pretty basic. |
