| philster020701-18-07, 07:23 PM | After reading up on the sword i am completly redoing this so if itis not done than i got kicked off the computer. It is called the First Ken The sword is composed of 6 swords. First Sword: the first sword is cloud's favored sword in the movie. it has mechanics in it to help it move. it has two forms. the first form is a +4 greatsword. it has a regular reach and damage. the second form is gained by a draw. the sword is the same with just 2 extra feet of reach. other swords can only be attached to the second form. Second Sword: The second sword is a plus 3 longsword. It has regular reach but it is a gaurder because of the hilt. the sword is placed inside the middle of the first blade in second form Third And Fourth Sword: This is a plus 2 bastard sword. the swords are identical and fit on both sides of the sword. it is has edges on it to help vut Fifth and Sixth Swords: These are plus 2 shorts swords. They are attached at the end of the sword. the hilt folds to the flat side of the blade and are attached on noth sides of the sword to complete it. Limit Break: When all the swords are together the user can preform a new limit break. The sword come apart and start to attack the opponent. each blade attacks once and the advancements are doubled. then the swords are seperated into the original 6. Combining the swords must be inorder form one to 6 and combining them counts as a draw action |
| GhostStepper01-18-07, 07:31 PM | Wait...7 swords that cost 100,000 that turn into one +14 sword that does 25d6 damage... Way too complicated and way too overpowered for the cost. |
| philster020701-18-07, 09:41 PM | well if you sort everything out and reread it you'll find out it's not too confusing. and yes i know have to tamper wih the cost because it is way to low. i'm working on it right now. |
| Grug the Just01-18-07, 11:16 PM | Firstly, there are 6 swords. Secondly, a +14 weapon would run 3.9 million, not counting the special added Limit Break. Really, I think this weapon doesnt translate well to DnD at all. If you insist however; This may help you better understand the sword. (http://www.ff7acmovie.com/articles/ff7ac_reviews_and_analyses/clouds_6_piece_sword_in_ff7ac.html) Also, try this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Final_Fantasy_weapons) |

| Leress01-19-07, 03:04 AM | The sword is not magical. Why does everyone make the swords like that? They are masterwork swords, but it's the epic level character wielding them that these abilities are coming from. It has high hp and hardness and since it is six swords very hard to completely destroy. Just make it masterwork sword of appropriate to the six sword and make it so that it each sword besides the main one adds 1/2 its hp and hardness to the weapon. Give it a bonus to sunder and have the complete sword act as a full blade with the improved stats. |
| risner01-19-07, 07:02 PM | The sword is not magical. Give it a bonus to sunder and have the complete sword act as a full blade with the improved stats. Masterwork is limited to +1 enchantment bonus to hit so to provide more than a +1 these must be magic. Things you can not do with D&D: 1) Make masterwork above +1 enchantment to hit. 2) Make improved stats to existing exotic weapons. 3) Make a full blade with improved stats. 4) Add reach to a non reach weapon. |
| Leress01-19-07, 10:05 PM | Masterwork is limited to +1 enchantment bonus to hit so to provide more than a +1 these must be magic. I know that, but each individual sword is master work too. They don't stack...okay that is what I am getting at. Things you can not do with D&D: 1) Make masterwork above +1 enchantment to hit. Unless you houserule, but I am not doing that 2) Make improved stats to existing exotic weapons. This is a custom weapon we are talking about anyway so why not improve stats. 3) Make a full blade with improved stats. Who says? We are making a custom weapon. 4) Add reach to a non reach weapon. I never said anything about adding reach. The weapon is still not magical. The Final Weapon would be a masterwork Full blade with added hp and hardness and a bonus to sunder if the full blade doesn't already have that feature. Each individual sword would be a masterwork version of a sword that closely represents the weapon and we use those stats about hp and hardness to help calculate the final stats of the combined and completed sword and if it seems too heavy make it out of mithral. Use the masterwork/mithral price to determine the price of the sword, and if it seem cheap add some to price and call it the price for making these pieces fit together. |
| risner01-20-07, 07:45 AM | This is a custom weapon we are talking about anyway so why not improve stats. Who says? We are making a custom weapon. Because weapons are balanced by their type (Simple, Martial, and Exotic.) You can not take an existing Exotic weapon (e.g. Fullblade) and make it better. If you do, you break the balance of the weapon. In other words, as a rule you can not take an existing weapon and make it better. You could make it slightly better if it were Simple and call it Martial (if it is not more powerful than the best Martial weapon) and you could take a Martial and make it slightly better if it is not more powerful than the best Exotic. But you could not generally take an Exotic and make it better. |
| FreAkOuTRG01-20-07, 08:46 AM | There is pretty much just no way to do this without magic in D&D. Your best option, IMO, would be to create an enchantment that allows you to morph the weapon into different shapes, without changing the enhancement bonus (unless you split it to make 2 swords). For example: +4 morphing greatsword becomes: +4 longsword +3 bastard sword and +3 bastard sword +3 shortsword and +3 shortsword not sure what value that would be though... actually, I think it's kind of dumb... |
| mato_hibiki01-20-07, 08:47 AM | Hah! My turn, my turn! I give you First Tsurugi of brokenation! Note, this weapon is pretty damn overpowered for a standard setting. The Exotic weapon proficiency - First Tsurugi is required to wield the Base sword, Impact blade, Sawtooth blades and Switchblades in all shapes and forms. Base sword, main blade housing - Large greatsword, 2d8 twelve pounds crit 19-20 x2 Impact blade, main cutting edge - Large greatsword, 2d8 twelve pounds crit 19-20 x2 Sawtooth blades, extra weight and serration - Greatsword, 2d6 eight pounds each crit 17-20 x2 Switchblades, extra weight - Broadblade longswords, 1d8 six pounds each crit 19-20 x2 Base sword and Impact blade - Large broadblade greatsword, 4d8 twenty four pounds crit 19-20 x3 Base sword, Impact blade, and both Sawtooth blades - Huge broadblade greatsword, 4d8 plus 4d6 fourty pounds crit 17-20 x3 Fully assembled First Tsurugi - Huge broadblade greatsword, 6d8 plus 4d6 fifty two pounds crit 17-20 x4 Note - Broadblade longswords function the same way broadblade shortswords do. Only bigger. See Complete Arcane, page 117. Except that for every two points of combat expertise used, a plus two AC to dodge is gained. Because the sword blades are wider, duh. Heh, this is really busted up, like a fanboy katana. I only made this for playing with a particular DM who throws adult red dragons at a party of three guys at level five. Fight brokenation with brokenation, right? :P Please, don't actually use this, unless you have a DM like I mentioned. |
| Darth Sephiroth01-20-07, 11:30 AM | Actually, I would make the 1st Tsurugi a magical weapon, if only to make it survive a hit by the Masamune which is definately a magical weapon. Perhaps +1/blade and they stack up. Some have special abilities with no more than a +1 equivalent and some of them seemed to be designed for being wielded in the off hand (or a specific hand). I'd also go with them as Adamantine because of how easily it seems to pierce through BUILDINGS in AC. Personally, I would consider just building the entire thing from the ground up as a Legacy Weapon based around Cloud from the end of 7 (When he left behind the Buster Sword as Zacks gravestone) through DoC. |
| Leress01-20-07, 11:54 AM | Because weapons are balanced by their type (Simple, Martial, and Exotic.) Simple- easy to use Martial- more focused and needing more training to use properly Exotic-time to let imagination get loose You can not take an existing Exotic weapon (e.g. Fullblade) and make it better. If you do, you break the balance of the weapon. All I add was hardness, hp, and maybe +2 to sunder it's not any more broken than a mithral or adamantite spiked chain. In other words, as a rule you can not take an existing weapon and make it better. Please cite the book and page where this is stated. You could make it slightly better if it were Simple and call it Martial (if it is not more powerful than the best Martial weapon) and you could take a Martial and make it slightly better if it is not more powerful than the best Exotic. But you could not generally take an Exotic and make it better. It's six swords that are put together to make a larger sword. Why is it crazy to do that but slapping magical enhancements and making it an epic weapon it okay? |
| risner01-20-07, 01:57 PM | Exotic-time to let imagination get loose Please cite the book and page where this is stated. Exotic is not "let imagination get loose" by any stretch of the imagination. Exotic means "requires a feat to use". Feats provide balanced benefits. By your theory any player should be able to have an Exotic Longysword that does 999999999999999999d8 per hit. You need to cite page/book for the following: Exotic are unrestricted and/or requires no balancing to Martial weapons. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland01-20-07, 02:31 PM | My concept would be that it is an artifact in six parts, much like the rod of seven parts. The Base is a +2 greatsword. The Impact blade is a +1 keen greatsword - Combining these two gets you a +2 keen greatsword. The sawtooth blades are +1 mighty cleaving longswords - Combining these to the second form swrod makes it a +3, keen, mighty cleaving greatsword. The switchblades are +1 shortswords of speed - Combining them completes the blade, creating a +4 keen, mighty cleaving greatsword of speed (+9 weapon) The completed weapon grants the Omnislash (PHII) feat even if the weilder would not normally qualify. |
| Leress01-20-07, 02:45 PM | Exotic is not "let imagination get loose" by any stretch of the imagination. Tell that to the Spiked chain Exotic means "requires a feat to use". Feats provide balanced benefits. Not really since exotic (bastard sword) actually makes it worse for damage. Spiked chain is way better than the whip or whip dagger. By your theory any player should be able to have an Exotic Longysword that does 999999999999999999d8 per hit. Yeah...and what DM would accept that? You need to cite page/book for the following: Exotic are unrestricted and/or requires no balancing to Martial weapons. I could use the cop out answers: See the spiked chain Rule 0 blah blah. That really doesn't matter right now though since it is not helping the topic. --------------------------------------------------------- Now back on topic, I just did this one very quick based off my suggestions. Use the diagram that is linked on Grug the Just's post as a guide. All weapons here are masterwork Weapon Damage Crit Range Price Weight Hardness Hit points 1.Greatsword 2d6 19-20/x2 350gp 8 10 10 2. Bastard 1d10 19-20/x2 335gp 6 10 10 3. Long sword * 1d8 19-20/x2 315gp 4 10 5 4. Long sword * 1d8 19-20/x2 315gp 4 10 5 5.Scimatar 1d6 18-20/x2 315gp 4 10 5 6.Scimatar 1d6 18-20/x2 315gp 4 10 5 7.First Ken ** 2d8 19-20/x2 2345gp 30lbs 10 25 *This doesn't include making them serrated since I don't have rules to that. **This acts as a masterwork fullblade, with all the restrictions. Since by the article I read on the link they seem to act as the highest tiered sword until fully formed. I don't have the hardness and hp of a fullblade, but that doesn't matter since it is only acting as one. ++Since hardness doesn't stack I just made it overlap. |
| mato_hibiki01-20-07, 02:48 PM | Nice Ashland, way to make my 'weapon of brokenation' legit. :P Question, why do people keep calling the First Tsurugi 'first ken'? It's weird bordering on creepy... |
| philster020701-20-07, 06:56 PM | It's the english version of the sword. the name can be found on a couple sites. |
| mato_hibiki01-20-07, 07:22 PM | ... So... The english version of first tsurugi... is first ken... DESPITE both ken and tsurugi being japanese words for sword... That earns a big, fat... WHAT THE CRAP Thank you. |
| risner01-20-07, 11:15 PM | Tell that to the Spiked chain Not really since exotic (bastard sword) actually makes it worse for damage. I could use the cop out answers: See the spiked chain Rule 0 Sigh Check this thread: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=694416 Build your weapon with the percentages there. Notice how Spiked Chain is only slightly over balanced at 107%. Build your weapon with those percentages, and if it is between 95% and 105% you can consider it fairly safe. It would be best to try for 100% exactly. |
| Leress01-21-07, 04:44 AM | Mine comes out to be 99% percent, I can either increase the damage die or the crit range and still be safe. Since the system doesn't take into accound hit points and hardness. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland01-21-07, 07:49 AM | It shouldn't count hp or hardness as for a mundane weapon, these are negligable and based on material rather than the weapon. |
| risner01-21-07, 10:45 AM | It shouldn't count hp or hardness as for a mundane weapon, these are negligable and based on material rather than the weapon. They are based on weapon type and then by material. Check PHB p158 Two Handed Blade Hardness 10 Hit Points 10 If you make it from a harder material (Mithril or Adamantine), the values may change. Extrapolate it from Iron's hardness/HP. |
| mato_hibiki01-21-07, 12:23 PM | It's a good thing you guys are using the percentage based 'make your own weapon' rather than the other, point based one. That one's scarily abusive. I made a two handed exotic, 3d4 18-20x4 weapon, just for a 'lark'. :P No, I'm never going to use custom made weapons in my games, not if I can make something like that in five minutes. ... Unless my old, power hungry, power mad DM comes back. Then it's time to unleash the fury. :D And can't we just call the fullblade a 'buster type' sword and be done with it? Give the weapon some sort of... I dunno, 'splitting' enchantment, sorta similar to the A&EG's double bladed sword that splits into two long swords and let it go? |
| terrashand01-21-07, 03:47 PM | Now I'm not going to get into DnD stats just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. First I am not seeing any of Cloud's swords as anything less then a greatsword regardless of how he used them. Also, i think with the big sword formed I see it doing about as much damage as a huge greatsword. My other cent is about whats his face's masamune. I really don't think it would be a weapon made of steel, mithril, etc...magical or not it would break. Katana or not it would break. Rather easily I might add. For DnD I would consider it more along the lines of a soulknife. Plus the way it was formed with him in Advent Children that would support my idea. That and I don't like him or the weapon so maybe I think it's just the dumbest idea I have ever seen in a video game, movie, comic book, or whatever else. But, I did try to keep that opinion out of my post so there is my 2 cents guys. |
| the_unthinkable05-24-07, 05:50 PM | The completed weapon grants the Omnislash (PHII) feat even if the weilder would not normally qualify. What does the Omnislash feat do? |
| Grave_Accomplice05-24-07, 07:57 PM | It's OGL, but I'd give it the first blade the weightless enchantment. Amongst other abilities, it allowed you to weild a two handed weapon one handed. |
