| Kn1ves06-18-07, 12:02 AM | I know I've seen this somewhere but I can't remember where. |
| lint trap06-18-07, 09:23 AM | Races of the Wild and the MIC have it as a weapon enhancement. |
| Kn1ves06-18-07, 09:43 AM | Thank you. |
| Kn1ves06-18-07, 11:10 AM | Checked Races of The Wild but didn't see it and a friend is borrowing my MIC right now. I thought I saw it as a type of upgrade, not an enhancement, wherein the bow can be unstrung and folded in half for easier transport. |
| lint trap06-18-07, 11:16 AM | I don't recall a nonmagical way of making a collapsible bow, but Hideaway is in RotW, page 171. |
| Watchman06-18-07, 11:20 AM | I know I can't think of a nonmagical way to make a disassemblable bow... ;) |
| Kouk06-18-07, 03:45 PM | If it's any consolation, I seem to recall something like that too. |
| Knightblde06-18-07, 04:23 PM | I know I can't think of a nonmagical way to make a disassemblable bow... ;) Actually there are MANY ways to do this. It could be hinged to fold 180 degress, it could be three parts like a modern day compound bow. It could be screwed together near where you hold it. Basically the part right near your hand will not bend. As such as long as the joint is strong enough to hold when drawn, any kind of system will work. You could even have a small steel pipe for a handle a little larger than your hand, and place the top and bottom pieces into it. When strung the pressure of the bow will hold them in place. You just need a locking mechanism so that when drawn and released, the pieces don't come flying out. This could be a pin or other lock. Remember, a piece of steel no thicking than 1.5" is all that holds a 14,000 lb trailer to a pick up truck. And the pin that holds that in place is only 1/2" in diameter! (I know, I have one) Happy Driving! |
| Kn1ves06-19-07, 10:40 AM | What about trapped weapons? I also remember seeing a bow that, when used without hitting a catch, would fold shut and stab the wielder in the arm with poisoned needles. Anyone remember this and where it is or am I just going crazy again? |
| The_Shaman06-19-07, 10:48 AM | With a few crazy craft checks, I do not see why not. |
| qwerty106-19-07, 10:52 AM | DMG II |
| terrashand06-19-07, 08:59 PM | Back in 2nd Ed. there was a folding short that the only drawback is D6-1 damage. If I remember right it's cost was twice a normal shortbow. |
| Kn1ves06-25-07, 03:58 PM | I finally found it in the Dragon Compendium. It's in the weapons section and it's called a folding bow. |
| Thurbane06-26-07, 07:15 AM | I'm pretty sure the 2E Complete Thief's Handbook had a collapsable shortbow... |
