| meave11-14-04, 01:40 PM | my players have created a garguantian sized golden balanced weapon(arms and equipment), so it could be worn by a huge creature for the balanced ability of the weapon, and because they have monkeygrip they can hold this weapon even though they are large. a large creature has a reach of 10 and the weapon is about 12 ft long so my players asked: what would be the reach of the weapon and would they still be able to hit anything close with it? i thougt it is possible to hit 15 feat for a gargauntian weapon just as a garguantian creature can but this means that this combination can negate the negative effects of being large but they can have the best benefit their reach and damage. this whole thing means a reach of a garguantian creature and the damage of a collosal creature (a 6d8 longsword) with reach 15 for a large creature  |
| TyraaloftheFist11-14-04, 01:45 PM | I would say that they can't attack creatures within 5 feet with it, but can hit creatures 10-15 feet away. They still have the disadvantage, but keep the reach. |
| meave11-15-04, 07:31 AM | well a normal garguantian creature with his appropriate weapon can atack anything close as far as i know. this is something that only takes in account for a reach weapon but a longsword isn't and can still be used for atacks at the close range of 5 ft |
| tarkin11-15-04, 11:25 AM | 1) Large creatures do NOT all have reach, just the tall ones do. Centaurs and other "long" large creatures have 5ft reach, just like a human being. 2) Officially weapons of larger size do NOT grant any reach just for being larger. Supposedly, while they may physically be bigger, the mechanics of using it mean that the user has to hold it back/in the middle and if they tried to fully extend it, they would tip over. 3) If the weapon itself has reach, that is a different story, and more complicated. There are no official 3.5 rules on how to handle reach weapons of a size not your own. Savage Species, a 3.0 book, has some rules, but the reach rules changed in 3.5. |
| antrax11-18-04, 03:03 PM | mi master said that its imposible, that a large creature can use a gargantuan weapon, he says that u can carry it but cant used in combat becouse of its weight. can someone explain me how u can do this, and some tips to convince my master???? |
| tarkin11-18-04, 03:51 PM | The only way to do it is to use non-core things, such as "Balanced weapons", and races that can wield weapons larger than normal. Basically, your DM is correct, just ignore the munchkins making up their own rules. |
| meave11-19-04, 03:18 AM | this is true but because my players have the feat monkeygrip(savage species i think) which make's you use a weapon of a size catagory larger, and because they use a garguantian weapon with the balanced ability (arms and equipment)the weapon is treated as 1 size catagory smaller, because 2 of my players have cast an enlargement to large size upon themselves they can wield these weapons as if they where of there own size. and because they also use a golden weapon, it makes them deal collosal damage and they don't have the problem of being garguantian and thus have a size bonus of -4 to ac. but we have a problem of can u use this weapon and what will be the reach of the weapon? but thanks for youre reply's |
| Naeron11-19-04, 05:18 AM | By the rules a large Creature with Monkey Grip can use a Gargantuan weapon with the balanced enchantment (at -2 to hit from Monkeygrip of course). The weapon provides no reach benefit unless the weapon has reach itself. As a large humanoid they would have 10ft reach and that is what their reach would be when wielding the weapon. A medium human doesn't get a reach benefit when using a Greatsword, even though the weapon itself is longer than 5ft. Reach derives not solely from the length of the weapon but from how it is used in combat. |
