Colossal creature too weak to use colossal weapons? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-07-05, 12:53 PM How strong should a colossal creature be to wield a colossal-size longsword?
If they are weakened in some way (poison, for example), how low can their strength go before they are unable to use their weapon effectively?

For example, if you scale up a creature from Medium to Colossal, you add 32 strength (+8 per size category increase) so an "average" colossal human would have a strength of around 42.

What rules, if any, govern a loss of, say, 20 strength points to this human?

09-07-05, 01:09 PM Work out how much the weapon weighs (double the base weight for every size increase from the PHB version). As long as they still have a high enough strength to lift the weapon, they are strong enough to use it.

09-07-05, 01:44 PM Medium sized weapon weighs 1-20 lbs.

A strength of 6 can hold 20 lbs as a light load.
-> large = x2, + 8 str
->huge = x4, +16
->Gargantuan = x8, +24
-> Collosal = x 16, +32

16 - 320 lbs, 38 strength

A strength of 27 can handle a light load of 346.

So yes, the strenght of larger creatures scales well.

Note, this is only tangetially related to bows, your original question.
