Combat Rhythm - what's the big deal? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-11-07, 02:06 PM Let's say you don't get any AoO and you're a single weapon fighter....is using Combat Rhythm better than a full 4 attacks?

Again - assume my character fights with 1 sword and is not getting any AoO.

Wouldn't a better question be, "If I use Combat Rhythm as best I can, does it kick all kinds of ass?"

Combat Rhythm is the big one, best used, as you've guessed, with a lot of attacks.

For a longsword wielder (instead of a reach weapon user or a TWF character) without Combat Reflexes, Stormguard Warrior itself is of limited use except for Fight the Horde.

The exception is if you're high enough level in Warblade to use high-level Diamond Mind maneuvers. Avalanche of Blades comes to mind as a simple maneuver that works incredibly well with Combat Rhythm even if you aren't built for it. Just declare you're using Combat Rhythm and engage Avalanche of Blades. On your next turn, be sure to use one of the Mongoose maneuvers from Tiger Claw and/or Time Stands Still from Diamond Mind if you have either of them. (If you are built to use Combat Rhythm, you can probably do better than Avalanche, but that one maneuver lets even a longsword-user without Combat Reflexes be a killer with it.)

If you follow Customer Service's ruling on White Raven Tactics, you can actually do all of that on one turn. 10th-level Eternal Blades can do similar stunts as well, although they have a harder time getting the Tiger Claw maneuvers and Island in Time only shows up at 20th level.
