| Empiro05-16-07, 06:19 PM | By the DMG rules, it's 50% extra for the new ability. e.g. If you have a cloak +2, and want to add +3 resistence, it would be 9000 gp(cloak of resistence +3) times 1.5. If you have Complete Adventurer (I believe) there's a Vest of Restistence in there that you could get instead. If your DM is working by the Magic Item Compendium rules, then adding these "common" properties have no premium, so adding +3 resistence would cost 9000 gp. |
| Mooncalf05-16-07, 06:42 PM | By the DMG rules, it's 50% extra for the new ability. e.g. If you have a cloak +2, and want to add +3 resistence, it would be 9000 gp(cloak of resistence +3) times 1.5. That depends on whether you have a cloak of charisma or resistance and want to enchant it further, or if you want to create the thing from scratch. (I think the OP indicated the latter, said nothing about having a cloak of charisma.) If you have a preexisting item, you add the cost of the new ability times 1.5, no problem. If you're creating the item from base, thus adding all abilities at the same time, it's normal cost for the most expensive, and *1.5 for the others. Examples: (Cloak of charisma +2, resistance +3) Adding +3 res to a +2 cha cloak: 4000 for base item + 9000*1.5 = 17500. Adding +2 cha to a +3 res cloak: 9000 for base item + 4000*1.5 = 15000. Making the cloak from scratch: 9000 + 4000*1.5 = 15000. Now, if you have a +2 cha cloak and a +3 res cloak, and you want to turn THEM into a powerful cloak retaining all abilities (possibly through some magical quilting), you would have to persuade your dm to agree to it. There'd be some money required (er, in making the item, not persuading the dm... though bribery does work, sometimes), likely (cost of complete item) - (sum of costs of original items). You'd have to pay 2000 gold for the difference, I suppose. Mind you, the above suggestion is not supported by any book, but I think the concept of combining items is pretty cool. |
| PiccaloJr05-16-07, 08:41 PM | Great info guys! Thanks for the replies. The main reason for this is I have an Artificer that's going to be shelling out magic items and I just want to make sure what the procedures are. Thanks a million!! ^_^ |
