In the style of feudal japanese samurai, Composite Armor is designed to be extremely light, and protect its wearer from deadly attacks, but be destroyed in the process. Lemme know what you think.

Composite Armor
Light Armor
Cost: 200g
AC Bonus: +6
Maximum Dexterity: +4
Armor Check Penalty: -2
Arcane Spell Failure Chance: 15%
Special: Whenever you are the subject of a critical hit while wearing Composite Armor, the armor takes the damage for you. Apply hardness (7) as normal, and the armor has 30 hit points. If the damage from the hit exceeds the hit points of the armor, the remainder is applied to you. Remember that each +1 of enhancement bonus adds 2 hardness and 10 hit points.

I see where you're coming from, in that becoming crushed is a good way to absorb a blow, but that generally requires a bit of buffer room. A modern-day bumper can lessen an impact by being destroyed, because it'll smoosh in by a foot. A shield could stand to be destroyed... Though, that was as much a product of the economy of the piece of equipment as anything, so never mind.

My point is, "Nah."

NO.

Ok, it can be damage through normal use but using the listed base price it would also be very cheap and easy to repair. As mentioned all armor is intended to take damage that would otherwise injure the wearer so this isn't that neccessary.

Aside from your damage mechanic this armor is so much superior to everything else it is hardly funny. A +6 armor bonus isn't found until you get to HEAVY armor and here you call this stuff light. Besides not slowing a character a bit if you factor in the very high MAX DEX that +10 is higher than any standard armor. The listed ACP and ASF are also terribly low.

I don't know what this is made from (metal or leather for special material) but except for the minor drawback this stuff if superior to Mithral Chainmail in base AC and ASF but at less that 5% of that armor's 4150 gp price tag.

In the game Scale and Splint Mail along with Banded Armor could already be considered "composites" and none of them come close to matching this. Admittedly, you'll probably never see a 2nd level character in any of those but that isn't an excuse to create an armor that blows everything else away.

Isn't Lamellar armour from the Arms and Equipment guide Japanese Armour?

Also he gets a 3d6 18-20 katana too? Ignores DR of course.

Grab one of the other armors out the PHB that reflects how much coverage and mobility you think it should have and call it composite or lamellar armor.

Just use a chain shirt and call it something else.
