| capella11-02-06, 06:51 PM | In the DMG STR bonuses to missile weapons such as bows appear to go up to +4 but it does not state that this is a maximum. If it could go up further to say +7, my fighters STR bonus, should I use the stated formula to work out its cost? |
| Ovistavin11-02-06, 07:58 PM | Yes. A composite shortbow for a +7 str modifier would cost 600 gp and a composite longbow would cost 800 gp. |
| Tyler Do'Urden11-03-06, 01:05 AM | 1100 for masterwork. |
| TrackStar11-03-06, 01:50 AM | greatbow would cost 200 gp per a +1 |
| capella11-03-06, 04:27 PM | Thanks guys short and sweet TWWWWWWWWAng Ouch! |
| Garonak11-03-06, 06:36 PM | Just remember: Do not drop your mwk mighty composite greatbow (str +5) on a square, move away from that square and expect the bow to survive the fireball that the pesky flying wizard in the middle of the chasm casts at you. Of course now I can get a str+7 bow since my str has increased thus, but how to get my hands on 1850gp when my lvl 8 fighter has had an average of 28gp for the last three lvls...? Plus I have to order it because no ordinary bowmaker would consider stocking up on weapons that require 24 in str to use. |
| Wonton200611-03-06, 07:12 PM | I wonder, if we were making a bow for someone with, say, 45 strength, what would it be made of... stone? |
| Dyerhouse11-04-06, 01:09 AM | There is a bow called the Bow of the Wintermoon in Complete Divine that automatically scales the strength-to-bows mechanic to the wielder's strength modifier. It's pretty sweet. I had a whole Prestige class built around it once. |
| Tyler Do'Urden11-04-06, 01:41 AM | I wonder, if we were making a bow for someone with, say, 45 strength, what would it be made of... stone? Bone, steel, mithral, things that are very strong but still have a degree of elasticity to them. The string would probably have to be steel thread. You'd probably also need specially made (masterwork?) arrows so they don't simply get ripped in half by the string. This is to say nothing of sovereign glue. |
