Concealmnet from 3.0 to 3.5 ? [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-06-06, 11:43 AM Ok im not sure if this is the right forum for this post but im going to shoot and hope for the best anyways.

I havent played 3.0 but since a lot of material is 3.0 i have some books from it, one of those books being monsters of faerun and when i sat looking in it for something nifty to throw at my players i found the shadow dragon and thought wow. But when i read its description something struck me, 9/10 cover... wtf ? Since there (as far as i know) only excists concealment (20% miss chance) and total conealment ( 50% miss chance and some other heavy penalties) in 3.5 i have no idea at how to transate it.

So my questions are; how did concealment work in the good ol' 3.0, how would you translate it and finally is there a translation allready made, either of the nifty shadow dragon or of concealment in general ?

04-06-06, 12:18 PM The 3.5 Shadow Dragon can be found in the Draconomicon. I just ran this creature 2 weeks ago. It gets full concealment in 3.5 so that means 50% miss chance. This can only be negated by a Daylight spell. Remember that while full concealment gives the Shadow Dragon all the advantages of being invisible (+2 to hit, all opponents Flat Footed, all attacks targeting it have a 50% miss chance) it is not true invisibility so neither See Invis, or Invis Purge have any effect on it.

Have fun with this one. My players barely made it. Though they did impress me by all surviving to tell the tale. I was sure at least one member would die during this battle. I had forgotten that one of them wears the Hand of glory which is able to cast Daylight. This made all the difference.

04-06-06, 01:24 PM Glad to help. Careful with that Negative Energy Breath it can make real short work of any party. The group I ran this against was lucky enough to have a Favored Soul with Restoration, or I don’t think they would have made it. If your party does not have a Favored Soul you might want to slip the party cleric a few Restoration scrolls before this encounter.
