Such actions include casting a spell, concentrating on an active spell, directing a spell, using a spell-like ability, or using a skill that would provoke an attack of opportunity. In general, if an action wouldn’t normally provoke an attack of opportunity, you need not make a Concentration check to avoid being distracted. Could I use a Concentration check to continue a Coup de Grace if I'm attacked during the action? Could I use this on Trip or Grapple AOOs that strike back to continue starting a grapple or a trip? Thanks, IMarv |

So you don't need to make a Concentration check if you are hit. For grapples, if you take damage from an AoO provoked for starting the grapple, the attempt fails. And you can't make a Concentration check to overcome that. The focus needed to keep going during these combat actions despite distractions is better handled through Improved Trip/Grapple. |
