| crimsonwolf11-23-06, 12:10 PM | how deos one level up a animal companion from lev 1 to lev 2 what changes? |
| TienFong11-23-06, 12:50 PM | The animal companion gains additional ability and HD as the druid gains levels. Here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/druid.htm#theDruidsAnimalCompanion) |
| Lord Lorac Silvanos11-23-06, 03:49 PM | In other words nothing happens until level 3 where the Companion gains: +2 Bonus HD, +2 Natural AC, +1 STR/DEX, +1 bonus trick and Evasion. |
| Garonak11-24-06, 09:38 AM | With the lvl up it gets skills, feats and stat adj for hd. That is feat every 3rd hd and stat every 4th hd as for any creature. Number of skill points and such is in the MM, Advancing Monsters chapter. |
| Lord Lorac Silvanos11-24-06, 09:49 AM | The stat increase every 4th level is already included in the STR/DEX adjustment. You "only" get what is mentioned in the table. |
| Garonak11-24-06, 07:28 PM | Are you sure? If so... dang that sucks... |
| Thomas_Covenant11-24-06, 08:21 PM | Are you sure? If so... dang that sucks... At first level, a Riding Dog can have Studded Leather Barding (50 gp), and often outperform the party tank. (19 AC, trip for free without risk of counter-trip) At third, a big power boost, with Chain shirt the AC becomes 23, and again might outperform the party tank, I think there's not much to complain about.... |
| Lord Lorac Silvanos11-25-06, 02:09 AM | Are you sure? If so... dang that sucks... I think one of the main reasons was that they wanted to avoid that intelligence increased beyond animal. They make up for it by giving rather generous STR and DEX increases. |
| enygmatic_me11-25-06, 02:23 AM | You really want a beefy companion take a couple of levels of wizard and then get into the Arcane Heirophant PrC. It combines features of the Animal Companion and of a Familiar. With the right equipment your Companion will always be a fighter that can at least stay close to the parties tank in ability, and with the increase to intelligence no more need to make a handle animal check to get them to do anything. |
