The Dungeon Master's Guide states that a bonus cannot go over +10 including special abilities for armor and weapons. The problem I am having is all the lists of special abilities that do not give a bonus, but just cost extra money (like the resistances on armor) in 3.5.

Does this mean, one could make a +5 armor with spell resistance 19 (making it a +10 armor), then add all five resistances? Of course, this would make it cost something fierce, but then again, i would be an okay armor to wear.

Thank you in advance

Yes, the special abilities that don't give a '+' equivalent (just a flat gp cost) don't count towards the +10 maximum.

This is fine, but remember that anything that exceeds a cost of 200K gp (I think) counts as epic, so you still have a total cost ceiling you have to work under.

It is generally 200k per ability in the item.
So having a cost (total) over 200k doesn't trigger.
But having SR44 or something would.

Indeed there is one listed in the DMG.

I'm seriously thinking about abolishing the value limit altogether and relying on PCs knowing better than to put all their eggs in one basket.

Not sure if it's in the DMG, but the ceiling is present in the epic (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/magicItems/basics.htm) section of the SRD.
