Hi all,

I was just reading in the monstermanuals as I encounted a monster that could cause a Confusion Effect on a target that lasted 1 hour.

The rules on Confusion says I got to roll each turn to see what the course of action is that confused target takes. Now this is one hell of a lot of rolling I'd have to do for 1 hour confusion...

What should I do with it? Once the combat is over should it just be role played that the target is limited to incoherent babbeling since there is no actuall cause for the target to be aggressively confused?

Theoretically you would continue to roll each round. I agree that if there is no combat going on, a confused person would likely switch to less lethal forms of attack (kicking, yelling, spitting, throwing clothing, etc.) or just do something bothersome.

Insanity (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/insanity.htm) does something similar (but is permanent). I reckon an insane person spends his free time* as follows:
10% Acting angry at something imaginary or incoherently cursing his insanity
10% Acting coherent
30% babbling incoherently
30% Acting frightened or paranoid of something imaginary
30% Acting angry at anyone nearby

*i.e. in between time spend: eating, sleeping, attending to bodily needs and looking for food.

I would typically just roll anytime it amused me (or anytime fighting broke out nearby). An adventuring party would likely want to restrain, cure or ditch their ally as soon as possible.
